Which would you choose?

So I HAD a 1969 Bronco that had some stuff done to it (lift, tranny swap, a LOT of engine work) but needed some work to get it up and running. I say had, in that my mom decided to pay someone to take it to a junk yard :(.

Anyway, I'm looking for a 4x4 of some sort for winter driving (not necessarily this winter) but was curious what any of you would rather get. I was thinking of another early bronco but with not as much stuff done to it, and something that was running already (find it easier to stay motivated about a vehicle when you can actually drive it) or a jeep wrangler with some sort of lift just to make it look a little burlier. Also considered getting another ford ranger w/ the 4.0L v6. So what you guys think?

Funny, I've been looking at trucks as well, but I'll probably be staying in the realm of a pickup. I had a '69 Bronco, and just don't care for the full on resto work most early Broncos require.

That is a tough one. WHat are you looking to do with it other then winter driving? The bronco would probably be the best in the snow if that helps.

Pickup. Throw a bunch of weight in the bed for the winter and it'll get around just fine. Plus you'll be able to use it as a mule and haul stuff in the bed. You'll make a bunch of new friends: "hey man, can you help me move something with your truck?"

i wanted winter driving mainly but have some fun w/ it as well. The bronco i had was a boss 302 motor with a lot of work done to it that when it was all said and done would prolly push well over 400 HP and it was wicked fun when it was running like shit, but thats a different story :)

I had the ranger...and it did awesome in the snow (that blizzard of '06) but didn't like the "friends" aspect of it either. Besides, you see a lot of trucks on the road.

The FS thread was gone, so I figured it was sold!

For utility reasons, I'm definitely going to go with a pickup. What if you got a newer Bronco? Those are still fun and they're dirt cheap.

eh...i agree on the fun/cheap part, but the looks of the old ones are so sweet! Plus they're stupid simple as far as working on them.

I definitely agree with that. I had a 351W in mine. Truck was a blast, I rarely had the doors or top on it. Had I kept it, though, I would have had to nearly scrap the body. Rust killed the thing.

So I'm in the process of trying to get a speed from Bob Penkhus (fingers crossed, arms crossed, legs crossed, eyes crossed...think I got everything covered) but if that doesn't work, I found this on craigslist:

so as of now I need about $4g's for a down payment to compensate for negative equity, which doesn't make sense to me since the total loan value w/ the negative equity and the speed will end up being less than the value of the speed. In the end I'd end out ahead!!!!

Matt is still working on something tho, what that means I have no clue, but hopefully its something good.

I think i'm SOL for both options right now. Looks like I need to wait till the end of summer and in the mean time, take the $400/month in rent I'm saving and dump that into the car payment :(
