Finally Ordered
Tom is right on all counts.
I went down in size to save weight, better acceleration, better handling, and to have cheaper options for tires.
Also, I think the 18" stock wheels are just too damn big for this car. It is a four door mid size sedan, not a Chrysler 300 family boat. I totally understand why people think that bigger is better, but it just isn't for me.
So, for me, I have a better looking wheel, less weight at the corners, this combo should be about 8 lbs lighter than stock, better acceleration, better handling, and all for much cheaper than I was expecting to pay. Works for me.

Very nice looking. Wouldn't putting 225's on a 7.5 wheel really stretch them? (Watch the curb when parking) Depends on the aspect ratio too.
Well, I finally nutted up and ordered new wheels and tires today. They should be here by the end of the week.
I ordered the Rota Torque wheels in 17x7.5 with a 45mm offset. I am slapping on some 225 General Exclaim UHP tires. The Color is Hyper Black. These wheels are 18 lbs each.[/b]

Those rims are going to be sick. I think you made a good decision.

True, 225s are better suited for an 8" rim since a rim's width should be 90% of the tires width prior to mounting. 225 * .9 ~ 8 inches. 225/7.5 ~ 84% so I am not losing a whole lot. I should only see a difference in handling in extreme cases, like tracking the car. However, the increase in handling of a smaller tire will probably offset the decrease in handling from a wider tire on a smaller rim.
I hope that makes sense. And before anyone doubts my math, 8" is 201.6 mm and 7.5" is 189 mm. So use those numbers in the calcs above.

I have 215 tires on my 7" wide wheel. The sidewalls are vertical. I wouldn't think that a 225 tire on a 7.5" wide wheel would be that bad.
On my old autox/track car I ran a 205 tire on a 6" wide wheel. The sidewalls on those tires would come out. Not ideal, but it worked and LOTS of people did it.

We all know you're going with a 225 tire, but what series? 45, 50, 55? Go too small and you're gonna have huge wheel gap.

The tire specs are 225/45/R17. I could care less about the wheel gap, I might go for a .75" drop in the future, but it is pretty low on my list of things to do at this point.

Whatever. My Enkei's make your rims look like the rims off a 88 Ford Escort. I would even role your rims in Compton.
I think Ron should buy my rims...[/b]
