Newb Drift Build

Decided to get serious with the car and do some vital replacements to get the car going sideways. Since 2011 and present i've dabbled with some modifications here and there: ss oil lines, mech omp removal, godspeed radiator, and electric fan from some van.

Thinking I could get the car drift ready in 6 days for an upcoming drift clinic...



Who the hell was I kidding?!





Then came in the new the parts




And then problems began piling up...

Seriously, it was like they welded this sh*t on!


Cleaned up the rear harness because I couldn't get anything else accomplished.



And so I'm going to get some dtss eliminators presssed in at a shop because, look at my garage, no space for a nice fancy press. And only on one hub too, why? Because the left one is still stuck on the axle like a mf.

Any suggestions on how to get it off? i've pounded on it with a mallet, used a 3 jaw puller, plasted it with pb. Won't even budge like a fat man on a couch watching the Food Channel. *le sigh*

Are you trying to take te axle nut off with an impact wrench? Is it a high powered quality one? Should zip the thing right off.

Where did your car live prior to Colorado? One thing that is really nice about the cars I have had since living here is that I haven't had any issue with stripped bolts and such.

I hate it when the damn nitrile gloves rip and then you can't get a new pair on cause you're hands are all sweaty. Argh, lol.

Lived in Seattle, Washington for a few years and spent the rest of its days in Colorado, purchased it from the original owner.

The right rear hub slid off like butter


It's the left side that's giving me such a hard time, won't even budge...any suggestions?

I'd try a really long pry bar. Sometimes axles can be stubborn, especially if any kind of corrosion built up in the splines.

How about heat?

I thought I read he soaked it in PB blaster.

Heat is a great suggestion. You've probably done this job before.

well, finally got the hub off, had to take the axle off and bring it to a shop




apparently the hub was rusted like crazy onto the axle




did some cleaning and polishing...







What should i paint the interior? Debating on white or some dark color like gunmetal or black?

The gunmetal will be a two stage paint project. Pretty sure you will need to lay a silver or chrome base, then cover it with the translucent black. I think it would look good and be unique.

thanks for the input shadowden! I need to do some more research before i can decide. Anyone know how to remove the downpipe without taking the engine out? I have no idea how to get to the turbo side bolts.
