They are pretty tight, especially if you're 6' and over, LOL. jk, I knew what you meant lol.

But I would look into making sure your OMP is working properly, the hoses for the oil jets in the housings are plastic so they are brittle and can crack easily, double check that those hoses aren't broken and are in-tact. Other thing to check is the oil metering jets in the housings have an integrated air bleed that needs to be open otherwise they won't work. In a stock setup they have a hose than runs to the air box, some people just remove this hose since they don't really need filtered air (the air bleed orifice is so small and the air flow rate is so low nothing could really get in there anyways). But make sure it's open. They will be virtually impossible to see without removing the UIM and rats nest.
Of course you should make sure that the previous owner didn't delete the OMP altogether.

I did have a friend who got some cheap and had them re valved and they were better, but still not great. Out of the box the shock dynos are all over the place, horrible.
Now the Apexi N1 EVX is a great combo street/track coilover from all the reviews I've heard. The spring rates are decent and they ride well, but also handle good.
I'm debating myself between the Apexi n1s or Fortune Auto 500s.
