^It's unlikely we (USA) will be getting that powertrain option. Europeans have been enjoying turbo diesels in cars for decades while we suffer without the efficiencies of a turbo diesel in the USA because American's hate diesels because of decades old stereotypes.

I've heard we are definitely getting the Skyactiv-D powertrain in North America, and I cannot see Mazda only trying to market it in Canada and Mexico.

um canada and mexico get the focus RS. while ford lets it's own country sit and drool even though the speed3 sells so well..
ford also has LOTS of diesel and other small car options that are available pretty much everywhere but here. so mazda releasing the diesel everywhere but the USA isnt really too hard to imagine.
hell. VW has a 60mpg Jetta Blue TDI Diesel that they are just barely thinking about releasing here in the states after years of it being in europe.
but the USA sheeple still assume diesel is worse for the environment and the environmental hippies would rather get a prius which actually does MORE damage to the environment just to create than a landrover v8 does driving around for something like 10 years

But then I kinda see you comparing apples to oranges. Look at the size and sales of Ford compared to Mazda. They don't compare. Ford has sold close to 175,000 cars so far this year. Mazda hasn't even touched 25,000. Ford has a 16.8% share of the market while Mazda is at 2. I don't think they could successfully sell the diesel 6 in North America and have it be profitable if they only sold it in Canada and Mexico. They don't have a big enough market share to do so, where as Ford has a large market share so it's easier for a company like them to sell stuff more exclusively in other markets and have it be profitable.

i hate the idiom of comparing apples to oranges... Although they may look and feel different, they are both round, they both are fruit, they both grow on trees. they are both edible, both can be made into juice, they both contain seeds. the two fruits have a similar size and weight, and their juices have a similar caloric content and levels of vitamin C... need i continue?

besides im not comparing mazda and ford. I know mazda is tiny so im using ford as a similarity because of the people interested said cars in each national market . i have been tracking mazda thinking about releasing a SA-d in the USA market and i know they are planning on bringing it here otherwise they wouldn't have gone through their expensive process of getting it tier2bin5 approved.
I said it really wouldnt be surprising if we didnt get it because look at their marketing tactics. plus what chickenwafer said "because American's hate diesels because of decades old stereotypes."
dealers KNOW [insert car model here] car wont sell well in the USA because of the way sheeple look at the small cars yet [insert same car model here] will sell like hotcakes in other markets. hence the reason ford only offers 5 cars in the usa. the fiesta, fusion, focus, mustang, and taurus...
however Ford UK sells 10, yes TWICE as many models in the uk. ka, fiesta, fusion, focus, mondeo, kuga, s-maxx, c-maxx, focus convertible, and the galaxy. (EACH ONE with a diesel option.) and the biggest car is the fusion.
because europeans dislike big vehicles
the dealers know americans want their big cars. and want gas burners and diesels are just NOW barely becoming an acceptable risk.

regarding your statement of:
"Turbo diesel you say? Wait for the skyactiv mazda6 2.2L twin turbo diesel making ~170hp and 310ft-lb of torque "

you posted in response to a turbo diesel TRUCK comment heck ive been wanting a turbo diesel dodge for years now aswell i just cant justify getting one of those and also never really have been interested in a TDI except for a beater MPG car and even then cant afford 3 vehicles(the 04 tdi is still 9k used). i already have one sportscar and one offroad/tow rig trying to suck my wallet dry lol..
odds are the only people really interested in waiting for a turbodiesel car are only looking as a possible DD with massive fuel economy. in which case the jetta bluetdi is a much better choice as it gets 60mpg highway vs the skyactiv-d mazda6's fuel-economy claims of 43 mpg highway

The Broncos suck, lol. That won't stop me from going to the game on Sunday, though :)

And with the whole comment about the turbo diesel 6 when chickenwafer was talking about trucks, well that was more of a joke than being serious.

And yes, while it will appeal to people wanting the fuel economy, it provides more than the Jetta TDI does. Looking at the VW site, I see fuel economies of 30/43 mpg for the TDI model Jettas, and no mention of a BlueTDI Jetta listed as a trim. However, they have 30 less hp and 70 ft-lb less torque. The new Skyactiv 6 looks like something that will be more sporty and fun to drive while still maintaining the good fuel economy. If I'm getting the same fuel economy, I'd take the sportier Mazda over the Jetta. Like right now, I miss my Mazda a lot. My car has NO power under 4500rpm, and once you reach about 4500-5000rpm, the power that is there isn't much at all. The Legacy will be nice for winters with AWD, but my Mazda was a much more fun car to drive. And with my driving (mainly "city" driving, by which I mean usually very little highway driving and more stopping and idling at lights than cruising), I still only get about 18mpg, which isn't much better than my Mazda was getting. It's supposed to be just a powerful at about 170hp, but it definitely doesn't feel that way.

And on topic: Can't wait to see the new hood once it's done!

lear i wasnt being serious either im just giving you friendly shit. sarcasm and jest dont go over as clear on the net lol.
and the bluetdi is planned to be released in 2012 with the first Jetta BlueTDIs will start showing up at VW dealerships for test drives in June, with the car officially going on sale in September. i still cant beleive 60mpg. but heck either car mazda or vw. still gets better mpg than a pirus.....i hate prius's, prius..prii with a passion. however the hell you say the plural of that car lol

and about the hood. (the reason i went to post here in the first place but forgot lol)
i wish you got a pic of the hood mocked up on the car. im not too sure about the sharp edges on an otherwise very rounded car. but then again with your body kit's front grill it may actually match up nicely. either way i know it will look alot better than the people that just run around with engine bits randomly sticking out...(there used to be a honda here in the springs with his super tiny motorcycle turbo and external wastegate sticking out of the hood and held up by the manifold and hotside without even a filter mounted on it.. but he hasnt been out recently. i think he sucked up a junebug or something..)
however i do like rugers air-cleaner because it is centered and kinda reminiscent of the old shaker hoods. either way function>form if this is what it takes to get you to the hp you want then its what is needed

and yes im still grumbling about not being the fastest miata around :p

Not tuned yet. The mechanical stuff should be done by Saturday and am trying to schedule a tune on Tuesday or Wednesday. The fuel pump has been installed, gauges are installed (looks awesome), engine brace installed and are now working on the intake. THe hood fab is done and now being blocked, primered and painted. I have not seen the hood on the car but the shop says it looks really good on the car. I will take some pictures and video when I tune.
