i hate the idiom of comparing apples to oranges... Although they may look and feel different, they are both round, they both are fruit, they both grow on trees. they are both edible, both can be made into juice, they both contain seeds. the two fruits have a similar size and weight, and their juices have a similar caloric content and levels of vitamin C... need i continue?
besides im not comparing mazda and ford. I know mazda is tiny so im using ford as a similarity because of the people interested said cars in each national market . i have been tracking mazda thinking about releasing a SA-d in the USA market and i know they are planning on bringing it here otherwise they wouldn't have gone through their expensive process of getting it tier2bin5 approved.
I said it really wouldnt be surprising if we didnt get it because look at their marketing tactics. plus what chickenwafer said "because American's hate diesels because of decades old stereotypes."
dealers KNOW [insert car model here] car wont sell well in the USA because of the way sheeple look at the small cars yet [insert same car model here] will sell like hotcakes in other markets. hence the reason ford only offers 5 cars in the usa. the fiesta, fusion, focus, mustang, and taurus...
however Ford UK sells 10, yes TWICE as many models in the uk. ka, fiesta, fusion, focus, mondeo, kuga, s-maxx, c-maxx, focus convertible, and the galaxy. (EACH ONE with a diesel option.) and the biggest car is the fusion.
because europeans dislike big vehicles
the dealers know americans want their big cars. and want gas burners and diesels are just NOW barely becoming an acceptable risk.
regarding your statement of:
"Turbo diesel you say? Wait for the skyactiv mazda6 2.2L twin turbo diesel making ~170hp and 310ft-lb of torque "
you posted in response to a turbo diesel TRUCK comment heck ive been wanting a turbo diesel dodge for years now aswell i just cant justify getting one of those and also never really have been interested in a TDI except for a beater MPG car and even then cant afford 3 vehicles(the 04 tdi is still 9k used). i already have one sportscar and one offroad/tow rig trying to suck my wallet dry lol..
odds are the only people really interested in waiting for a turbodiesel car are only looking as a possible DD with massive fuel economy. in which case the jetta bluetdi is a much better choice as it gets 60mpg highway vs the skyactiv-d mazda6's fuel-economy claims of 43 mpg highway
