Well, work put the KO on bringing it down today, so now I'll be dropping it off on the 29th. Bummer.

i am not too sure how old you have to be, but if you take it to Burt you get a Mercury Millan. Although it's not an Rx it really was a nice car to drive. V6 Auto, power everything, two tone leather, 6 disc. To be honest if i was in the market for a sedan i would get that one. Sorry to the 6 but it was nice to drive like a grandma for a while. The best thing, no one was mad i did 5 under, because they expect it from that car. Had some pick up if you needed it.

So today when going to the airport the car didn't want to shift from 5th to 6th. It was grinding. Clutch all the way in. I was going 65-70.

I've always heard 23 come out of the car rental places. When we used to go places for vaca. my dad couldn't drive and my mom wouldn't want to so we would have my brother drive as I was not licensed then. Well my brother wasn't 23 so my mom rented the car drove away from the place and after 2 minutes behind the wheele would hand the car over to my bro.

Probably hasn't changed. I'll be surprised if it is 21.

Hey guys, I may not be in an 8, but I can tell you that all of the many transmissions that have been in my car. Even from when my brother owned it in Florida, 2nd gear was the frist one to start crying, soon followed by third. I have a trans in storage at the shop that is destined for a rebuild. When I talk to the transmission dude I will ask what can be done to make it stronger and i will ask about RX-8 transmissions while I'm at it. I know a some of the guys on my First Gen club have been using miata gear sets in the first gen case. But I have not personally done any research on this. I know my current gearbox is starting to cry when it gets warm.

Well I always heard 25 but I think they drop it to 21 for military. Really no need to debate the issue since I'm neither 21, 23, or 25.

Shouldn't have been surprised. "We don't notice any difficulty at all... It probably requires more effort because of the short shifter that's installed." Sigh.

That sucks man. I think that they need to sit in a new 8 then get into yours and back in the new one and say yup there's something wrong with it. I don't have a short shifter yet and it feels just like yours I bet.

Well supposedly the entire service staff has driven the car and none of them have felt the issue. My question is, I wonder where they're finding a place to shift at higher RPMs, from 1st to 2nd, without sliding the car all over the place. I'm printing out a couple of clutch TSBs to bring with me when I go down. Grr.

They usually go up on I-25 to test things like that, or there is a road back behind all the dealerships that a lot of them like to open it up at

They definitely couldn't do it on I-25...a 1st to 2nd shift would happen way before you got on the highway. I mean, I'm not making it up. The 1-2 shifts are the shifts I missed on the 2 runs I made at Bandimere, and I stopped doing any runs because the car would just NOT shift into second gear at high rpms. My guess is, they just tooled around and shifted at 3k and didn't have any problems. I don't either at low RPMs. Personally, I want to be in the car when someone test drives it so I can explain to them under what conditions the problem is occurring.
