I gained 47whp by turning the boost up from stock (15.6psi at sea level) to 18psi at altitude with NO tune. While its technically not a tuning change, the stock ECU is capable of compensating for the extra boost (or most of it), and the car still ran beautiful afr's thruout.. with a HUGE gain in power, both on the dyno and the seat of the pants.. using it as an on the fly boost controller worked great, never said it was changing "the tune". No way in hell Im letting my wife drive my car with 18 pounds of boost, the switch helped with that as well..set switch one for 7-8 pounds, so she doesnt get stupid, then I get in and turn it to the "red" side....

For people with tunes, the switch allows you to change between two ENTIRELY DIFFERENT full tuned maps, so, if you have 2 different custom maps loaded, it changes between the two ON THE FLY. So, again, my only point is/was, I think the switch has multiple advantages over having to pull over and stop, turn your car off, unload and reload maps... wether it 70 seconds or not... shit, in 70 seconds, that prick in the prelude that wanted to race is a mile away. (Not that Id waste gas racing a prelude...lol)

there are, however, multiple advantages on the Cobb side as well... I just dont LOVE Cobb like you ;)

I absolutely love having the switch with the Standback. I basically ran the stock settings as a daily driving map, and would only "flip the switch" if I had to (James Bond style). If somoeone was dicking around with me i'd run the stock map and for fun, I would flip the switch at WOT and it would totally transform the car :)

Like I had it set up, you will only be using the Eboost to control boost parameters. The stock wastegate solenoid will still be connected to the ecu to avoid CEL's, but it will be tucked away with no function whatsoever. Whichever management system you use, it will not be control boost.
If the AP can turn fuel cut off and control the throttle plate, Id go with the AP to avoid having to purchase the FC flash for another $400 or whatever it is..

See that just seems too Fast & Furious to me. No offense intended. I just don't see the need to turn down the boost for daily driving since you can easily stay out of boost altogether by controlling your foot. Now a valet map when someone else is going to be driving your car would definitely be useful, but you're generally going to know ahead of time and can flash that map before you leave for your destination.

Either way, I still have a lot of research to do on which I'm going to buy, but I definitely won't be making my decision based on the ability to flip a switch for more power.

Does anyone know if the AP can do this?

The AP does have full control of the throttle plate and eliminates fuel cut.

hmmm...i like the idea of being able to switch maps on the fly, but the fact that in order to have that functionality w/ the standback u have to spend the extra $400 for fuel cut and throttle plate flash.

So no I'm kinda torn. At first i was leaning almost all the way to the standback, but now i'm about 50/50 with the two.

but with the standback if you get it pro tuned then you can eliminate fuel cut as well. the stock maps for both the ap and the standback are almost identical so a custom tune should be in consideration by both units

not true, fuel/boost cut is a separate entity in the ecu. The Standback has no direct control over the actual cut setting. What youre thinking of is the boost clip setting, which "lies" to the ecu.. If you have the boost clip set at 6.0, the standback will never show the ecu more than 6psi of boost. It helps, in a sense, by lying to the ecu about max boost pressures, but other factors, such as fuel, also determine what triggers the cut..notice how I worded it "fuel/boost cut"... they are in direct correlation with eachother.. Cp-e wouldnt sell the FC flash if the Standback could control it.

For those on the fence about which EMS to get, I would hold off a little bit until CPE released their new unit. I haven't read up too much about it, but it may offer some things that the AP does not. The only thing that kept me away from the standback was mainly the price of the unit plus the price and downtime associated with the flashes that CPE charges extra for.

It will be interesting to see what CPE comes up with in the future.

Eh, you guys just don't get it so I won't waste time trying to explain it anymore LOL. If you guys did your own tuning you would understand....

You don't NEED two different maps....adjusting boost, I can see the advantage of that (I do with an EBC) but you don't need two different maps unless you are running different fuels, which would have to pull over and re-fuel anyways so switching on the fly is pointless....

I already tried explaining but it's a bit like trying to eat a steak with a straw at this point

chicken I understand where your coming from and the points your making. But for someone like me, I don't think I will end up using an ebc, so the the two "maps" would just be different boost settings. Granted if I did end up w/ something like what Eric's car was, then yes and EBC and one map would be fine!

As far as self tuning, I don't know much about it, but the software that came w/ the standback looked impressive, yet very simple. So, I guess its just a matter of personal preference, so you can't really bash on people or "explain anything" to them as its there choice of the two.

Now if CP-E does indeed come out w/ a true standalone as I've heard, then its a different ball game and you're talking apples and oranges.
