It dies like its running out of gas (starvation/flooding?) when I’m riding. I’ve checked out a few things, and the cooling system seems fine... its water cooled, and the fan comes on and goes off just fine, electrical system seems fine, starter is good, charging system seems to be keeping the battery up… but it just dies, intermittently.
I took it into a shop and they charged me $380 to “fix” the problem, cleaning the carbs, replacing two plugs, and taking a look at the starter. It died again a day later and they took it in again, spent a MONTH and another $100 to tell me that they couldn’t find anything physically wrong with it, even with it idling at 4,000 RPM.
So I took it to a real dealership, and they rode it for 30 mins and 45 mins and didn’t see any issues at all. I rode it home without a problem, and then the next day it died 4-5 times on me.
I think I want to pull the tank off, maybe look at the carbs again, check the vent lines (vapor lock or vacuum issue, maybe).. but I’ve never done it. I’ve got the shop manual but a lot of it is gibberish.
Anyone in the Springs-ish area who has worked on a motorcycle (or wants to) interested in taking it apart with me? I’m a little afraid of it at the moment... haven’t even figured out how to get the tank off.
Right now I’m out $100 + $380 + $22.50 to mechanics, and $60 + $60 + $60 + $60 for towing, so I think it’s unfortunately time to look at it myself.
