Relocating from Phoenix in June

Postby chickenwafer » Sat May 23, 2009 9:14

Hey everyone! My name is Dave and I've been browsing the forums here for a while and thought it was finally time for me to properly introduce myself.

I currently live in stupid hot Phoenix, AZ. Me and my girlfriend are moving to Cheyenne, WYO in late June, she is getting a new job and making more money! She is from Scottsbluff, NE and went to College in Larime/Cheyenne so she is familiar with the area.

I know most of this club is in the Denver and Colorado Springs area, but I don't mind driving. I hope to be able to make it out to some meets starting in July or August.

About me- I'm from Pittsburgh, moved to Phoenix to go to school and get away from the cold (and now I'm moving back to the cold!!)

I drive a 2005 Mazda RX-8 titanium gray, custom modified GReddy turbo kit, Garrett GT3071R ball bearing snail, Snow water/meth injection COBB AccessPORT, self-tuned, blah blah blah, I really can't remember it all sometimes LOL

Some of you may know me from 8club as well. I'm also part of AZMC (Arizona Mazda Club) and we're a pretty big, active Mazda club out in AZ. So I'm really looking forward to getting to hang out with some like-minded enthusiast and making friends in new places.

Thanks everyone!

Dave

Wow, welcome. Sounds like your 8 can tear things up, and at this altitude, you'll need that seashell. Power loss up here is horrendous for N/A cars.

My wife is from Phoenix...we feel the same way about it as you. Blech.

Hey, thanks man!

Yeah, I'm not looking forward to the potential power loss. My turbo will have to spin faster to make the same boost, so hopefully I won't drop off too much but I'm sure it won't be as fast as down here.

Welcome!

I lived in PHX (AKA East LA) for 16 years... I feel your pain! I'll take a little loss in power/ boost any day for much nicer people and a better climate! I'll be back in PHX next weekend for a wedding. If you see a red MS6 with CO plates- that'll be me.

Looking forward to seeing your 8 at a meet sometime this summer!

Trust me, the non-forced-induction cars lose a LOT more power than we do.

welcome, ill keep an eye out for your rx8 here in cheyenne. I moved here from the east coast (maryland)...trying to squeeze HP out of an NA car up here is like pullin' teeth...so its good you have that turbo setup.

Welcome! Your 8 sounds nice, post pictures! The power loss isn't that bad for turbo cars. Actually, if I remember correctly, there is no "real" power loss, the difference is that the turbo takes a longer time to reach max boost, so it feels slower. Could be wrong on that though. I know for sure though that for N/A cars there is around a 25-30% actual power loss.

Thanks guys!! I'm really looking forward to the move. Hopefully I can make it to Denver for some meets, or maybe there will be some meets closer to me in Fort Collins or Cheyenne. Not really sure what there is to do there tho, LOL

As requested, some pics:

Welcome, great car!
Nice car PC, whats the setup? I still have parts from a car PC project years ago. If you know anyone who need a really good DC PSU, let me know.

We'll have to get a Fort Collins meet together soon- great canyon to drive, great restaurants, and an easy drive from Northern Colorado and Cheyenne. One was proposed a while back, we should revive the idea.

Not positive about all the CarPC specs, a friend built it for me. It's a tiny box mounted under the passenger seat, Jetway motherboard, Mini ITX and Jetway parts, 100gb 2.5" hdd, 2gb ram I think, DVD optical drive in the glovebox with a 4-port USB hub, iGuideance navigation, 7" touch screen monitor, blah blah. I also have RoadRunner deck and a PIE adapter so I can play MP3's stored on the PC through the factory stereo
