The Highs and Lows of a Modified Mazda Owner

My saga continues........

Got my Ride back on the road again this Spring and enjoying breaking the new engine in.

Came down down from the mountains this weekend and enjoyed catching up with everyone Friday night at Sonic. The next morning I registered for a car show in Loveland. It was a great day met alot of other car enthusiasts spread the word out the our Club and took first place for Best Import.

Friday and Saturday pretty High loving my Ride.

Now time for the Low..............

Headed back home on Sunday, I stopped for gas at Costco. Jump in my Ride and turned on the ignition and the electrical system starts to act-up gages and stereo flickering on and off. Turn the keya nd it'll turn over but not start. Checked fuses and wiring couldn't find anything obvious. Tried starting again same thing only now the electrical system is starting to drain and some electrical buzing. Hidden electrical short??? With no tools and 120 miles from home and not wanting to cause any more damage I call AAA.:(

My number rule for highly modified car owners - get a AAA membership. Especially when you don't cary a spare in the trunk. LOL.
Came in handy yesterday.

My Ride is now at Burt Mazda for a dianostic. If its too much from them to resolve given all the mods especially the Microtech EMS it will be off to MAC autosports tomorrow.

I have two performance batteries and just installed a highout output alternator to carry the electrical load of all the Mods.:confused:

So stay tune....
This too shall past and I hope to be back on the road again soon.
More Highs to come. On the flip side, I'm sure there will be other Lows.

But such is the life of a Highly Mod Mazda Owner.
I'm glad its not my only Ride.:lol:

The first thing I would have them look at is the alarm system (I assume it has one).

Thanks for the tip, I'll past it on to the tech.
It has a Viper Alarm system with back-up battery. It was still barely working, got it to engage when I had to leave it in the parking lot outside of Burt's Service Center. Since it was Sunday (no one working) I parked the car under the lights, engage the alarm and put a car cover over it.... I still didn't get much sleep last night for fear of someone breaking in and/or vandalize it during the night. :unsure:

Just talked to Burt and the tech just started to check it out.

Damn Chris you're a Genius. You were spot on. Next time I'll call you before AAA LOL. Honestly its great to have knowledgeable members like you on the Forum.

My Ride was back to running great. So today ended on a High as I drove back to Glenwood. Driving into the sunset, charging up the passes, zooming curves with my turbo spooled and "Classic Rewind Rock" (ol fart rock) blarring on my sirius radio and a big smile on my face. :)

Nothing sounds better than spooling the turbo in Eisenhower Tunnel and listening to it echo and dumping the blow-off valve. The tunnel really accentuates the sound.

The Highs definately makes the Lows bearable and is the reason I still Love my Ride. ZOOM ZOOM

On another note - Burt Mazda was great to deal with. Dereck (Mazda tech) took good care of my Ride. Dereck is also working on building an awsome RX-7 looking to put down some serious power. Hopefully he'll post-up and share some info.

Very nice. At least it wasn't a Saab alarm! Nothing cheap on them.

Glad it worked out for you. That was my first thought because most electrical problems with cars are with stuff that has been messed with. The alarm is tied to almost everything in the car and is not as nice as something like an aftermarket ecu.
