Boost Leak

I think i may have a boost leak. My boost gauge reads -17 vacuum and 8-10 boost(psi). I don't know how to check for a leak. Can anyone meet me somewhere sometime and help me out or try and explain it to me. I'm very novice when it comes to cars. Thanks all.

That max I have hit is maybe 13 psi for a split second on my MS3, and its the same on a buddies MS6. Not many people have logged their max PSI with a stock car so its tough to tell what kind of PSI we are hitting at this elevation. I will actually be going to near-sea level this weekend with my car and plan on doing a log or two while I am there to see if thats a factor. Generally though, when you aren't hitting or holding max boost, its been the craptastic plastic BOV as the cause. I know kingtut just picked up a synapse (jealous

) so he might be able to provide some insight on the differences..

I wish I could, but I'm still running the stock BPV myself. I have the new BOV in-hand, but had some install issues. I posted up, but never got any feedback--> http://www.coloradomazdaclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4261

I never was able to get a stock log, as I got my mods before the accessport (which I will be ordering shortly from Darryl:))

If I remember right I was getting above 10, somewhere with stock BOV, I'm on HKS now and AP, getting much higher now, 17-18 at peak.

Get a piece of PVC or ABS tube that can be attached to the intake side of the turbo. Attach the appropriate size cap to one side of the tube. Drill a hole for a schraeder valve. Attach a cheap pressure gauge to it if you want. Pump some air into it. Listen for leaks from the turbo to throttle body and any vacuum lines and around the BOV.

LOL I know, I read that and I was like 'WTF did I just say??'

Here's a couple examples....basically you just want something you can clamp onto the intake side of the turbo that lets you pressurize the induction system from turbo to throttle body. Use an air compressor or bike pump to put about 20-25 lbs in there, then listen for leaks or use some foamy spray to check for leaks.

Regardless of whether or not you 'think' you're getting the right PSI for this altitude, it's a good idea to check for boost leaks periodically.
