Project: Protege5
The VTCS removal is a great mod. The MP3 configuration of the Protege has about 10 more horsepower than a standard 3rd gen Protege. The MP3's intake manifold also has no VTCS. The MP3 also has a different ECU, but still......

I like your plans. Maybe I can join in the FUN. I have a 2003.5 Mazdaspeed Protege with 47,000 miles. Currently swapping out my blown stock engine with a new forged block and internals. Revolutions Performance hopes to complete the install this Saturday. I have to break the engine in for 1,000-2,000 miles, but I'm considering moving on to my next set of performance upgades later this summer, maybe early Fall. I was hoping to hook-up with another CMZC member with a Protege and do a Mazdaspeed Transplant project. Better than parting it out on Ebay. I'm planning to upgrade my turbo with all the supporting performance Mods. Here's the parts that will be available after my Turbo upgrade:
Stock Turbo
Upgraded Performance SMIC
Upgraded Turbo Piping
Intake Mani
Exhaust Mani
Fuel Pump and injectors
Ingen CAI (maybe)
Performance Downpipe (maybe)
Any interest?? Got lots of time to work out details.
i hve an extra motor jut hit me up and we can do sometalking

Let's see.....
(VTCS manifold on bottom, VTCS-less manifold on top)
Even with the VTCS in the fully opened position, they still present a fairly sizeable restriction.
So, yes. It will help.
