This guy from mazdas247.com has been busy producing lightweight Protege pullies for about a month or so now. Now he's moving onto Speed 3/6 pullies (don't know if they would also work for NA 3/6's).
I have the ALT pulley installed. The water pump pulley is sitting on my work bench and the power steering pulley is in the final steps of its process. Lightweight pullies don't make a huge difference, but little increases here and there add up.
If you're at all interested, get in now while the prices are cheap. The second round of production he will increase the prices.

Like I said: "every little bit adds up".
In my last car (1992 Saturn SC), I swapped out the power windows/locks for manual ones to save those few ounces. But that car was all about performance. It was rarely driven on the streets unless I was driving to go flog at an autox or the road course.

I say that every little pound adds up to. When my brother bought his GN the guy before him lightened nearly everything he could. All those pounds and added power here or there help. If you have a 500hp motor your better putting it off in something light not a 4500 lb '72 442. Always good to compare HP/Lb when looking at different cars.
(Example. Eclipse06 260HP at this is a guesse 3600bls RX-8 "238" at 2900lbs the 8 is faster.)

True about the loosing pounds. My 64 Galaxie has about 350hp and 450 lb.tq. and only pulls 16.5 sec 1/4. It is 4200 lb. and that hurts big time. A friend of mine had a '67 mustang with about the same motor and was pulling 14s.

Accessory pullies don't effect engine harmonics.
The 2.0L engine in Proteges are internally balanced but also have a "harmonic damper" crankshaft pulley. I replaced my heavy crank pulley for a lightweight, underdrive pulley back in March. I've put over 10,000 miles on the engine since then with no issues. Other people have been running them for years without problems as well.

It adds up, but we are talking about rotational mass here.
Once you yank the engine out, install lighter and stronger pistons and rods, knife-edge your crank shaft by 5-7 lbs, and add a lighter flywheel.
By then you are gonna remove so much rotational mass that your ECU will panic everytime you lift off the throttle [img]http://coloradomazdaclub.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif[/img]

lowering your rotating mass helps the motor open up. when I put the lightweight flywheel on my car it made a huge change with reving. It changed the way the car starts from a dead stop, I have to rev it higher. I don't know how something like a pully would change but it adds up in the end. Can't say how the ECU would react.

It's nice to see the aftermarket putting harmonic dampers in light weight crank pulleys.
