Oil question

Postby Just4fun » Thu Jan 22, 2009 9:14

My MS6 looks to be burning about a quart of oil every 3k miles. Is this normal? I know a boosted vehicle will burn a little bit but this seems a bit much to me. As of yet I have not added any parts performance wise so I can't attribute it to that.

That is not normal. Is the car still under warrenty?

If so I would take it in to have it looked at.

It is. Only has 28K on it. I'll have to get it checked out.

Is your car used or new? I'm wondering if your turbo seals are bad. You wouldn't see smoke due to having both cats in place.

That was my first thought as well.

It's new to me but used. I haven't seen any smoke like described in other posts but do sometimes get a burning oil smell when I run the heater.

I think I am going to have it checked out to be safe. It would be a shame to have to have my turbo replaced ;)

Just as a follow-up the burning smell turned out to be the transfer case leaking and hitting the exhaust.

I took it over to Sil-Terhar and had them take a look at it. They had to keep it over night but should be taken care of.
