Near miss this weekend

Postby firestoned » Mon Dec 15, 2008 9:14

I usually let the wife have the garage, but I washed my car on Friday, my wife wasnt home when I got there, so I stole the spot in the warmth... Kept it there all weekend.

Normally, when my car is outside, I do this little self check to assure myself that the car is in neutral before getting out, due to the fact that I have a remote start on a manual transmission vehicle..

You can imagine whats next...

Last night, I went to warm my car up. hit the remote start, and heard a BIG CRASH sound. Right away, I knew what happend, started cussing at myself, and ran to the garage, knowing that the remote start will automatically try to restart in 10 seconds because the car didnt start. I run out side, and the car had lunged forward into the refrigerator and my motorcycle. The bikes are hanging on the wall directly over the motorcycle. The refrigerator shoved forward and knocked my bike off the wall. Luckily, it fell on top of the refrigerator, and somehow, the pedal was dangling about 6 inches from my hood. My son left his kneeboard leaning up against my motorcycle (LUCKILY). It absorbed most of the impact, thankfully. The bumper was snapped off of the snap mounts on the fender (both sides). A minor scratch on the passenger side.

I pulled the car backwards off the pile of crap, and look ed at the car.. Pounded on each corner of the bumper, they snapped back in just fine. License plate is all bent to hell, but that can be fixed. Other than that, the car is fine.

Definitely could have been worse... If it was outside, it would have driven through the garage door... If the refrigerator wasnt there, it would have driven through my kitchen wall... The peg on the motorcycle would have jammed through my intercooler for sure if the kneeboard wasnt there..

Needless to say, Im sacared to use my remote start now..

Wow that sucks. You need to get it to disable when in gear.

Goldrocket had a way of doing it using 4 switches, you could ask him.

Glad to hear nothing got majorly damaged.

lol, how is that disabling if it starts??

Im pretty sure Josh's is a Viper, mine is not, but they were both installed by the same guy I think.. My install took about a month to get done, due to the smart key, and other things that had to be disabled

Josh, does yours attempt to restart if it doesnt on the first try?

I don't think his tries to restart. Just dies and then its up to him.

lol it disables better than yours? :P all kidding aside. It disables it by seeing its in gear when it tries to start and automatically kills it. I don't know what you would call it if the car starts then turns itself OFF because it see's its in gear?

On that note... I have been there when Joshs car "tries" to start and is quickly suffocated by "the viper" hssss. You think that sounds scary? No whats scary is me getting yelled at by Josh for leaving his car in gear. Needless to say even though Roadrnr doesn't have a remote start it is always magically left in neutral, a learned behavior after numerous scoldings. Glad to hear that your car is okay tho Eric : )
[font=Arial Black][size=100]Roadrnr06 was my leased 2006 Speed 6 which was purchased on 06-06-06. I have many fond memories of that car, and will be keeping my original profile as a memory of the great car that I once had.

My new user name is Roadrnr09 and showcases my new 09 Subaru WRX which I am very happy to have purchased as a replacement vehicle : )
