Eric, since you have one the research and I think it will ease a lot of people's minds, can you make a list of BOVs that are safer for the speeds? I have an HKS, but I have never heard what you are experiencing and I am not nearly as modded as you are either. I do have some strange noises under WOT, but I have been informed that it is nothing dangerous and not to worry about it.
2006 SPEED6 Liquid Platinum Sport w/ Nav
Mods Completed - VG Sharkfin, 3M Clear Bra, SU Motor Mount, SU Test Pipe, 35% tint, VEI Digital Boost Gauge, Custom Defrost Vent Pod, PG Exhaust Manifold, CPE Turbo Inlet Pipe, CPE FMIC, Hacked Mazdaspeed CAI into SRI, Synapse BOV, Cobb Accessport EMS Tuner, CPE Dual 3" Catback Exhaust
Mods Needed - Catted Downpipe and finally a tune.

Correct, it is a pull-type, like many others, but it is a one way diaphram design, which is what creates the flutter if the bov cant keep up with the air movement. The Synapse is a centrifugal force type, no diaphram. This is a response I got From Jordan at Cp-e:
"Welp, what I can tell you is that anytime you hear the fluttering sound, that’s compressor surge. I think part of the reason why you’re getting mixed advice is because people are confusing the terminology. Compressor surge is only a problem under high boost levels. In other words, if the BOV is activating under high boost then you should be fine."
I experience it even at high boost, you can hear it over the actual blow off..
Patrick, the only reasearch Ive done is definitions and instances of compressor surge/flutter. After reading, I believe that most turbo vehicles with a diaphram type bov will experience some sort of flutter/compressor surge. Most people say under 8psi, it is not dangerous enough to damage the turbo, but when you push 15-18 like we do, it can definitely do harm. The trapped pressure is boucing off the impellar blades of the turbo, causing the blades to be stopped and go the other direction.
After reading the link for Synapse that I posted here, it makes alot more sense, and that should answer more questions. They even do a comparison next to a hks type bov. Check it out
I will be getting a Synapse to test, I will try to post videos of before and after to show any difference it makes

Rich wrote:Eric, after hearing your car, that "flutter" you're getting is not from your BOV. That sound happens after your BOV has already closed. I'd put the VTA horn on and leave it in recirc as well. Seems to me like your BOV isn't staying open for a long enough time.
yep, the flutter is the air that the bov didnt recirculate or vta, it definitely isnt staying open long enough, because it cant vent all the air the turbo is creating, even at its loosest setting. If i tighten the spring, it only gets worse. With the spring at its loosest, it leaks boost. It vents to atmosphere at very low boost, which will help temporarily, but screws with my afr's.. I almost have to put it into boost now everytime i accelerate, so that it will vta, but as you heard, Rich, it still flutters even after it has vta'd... the design is simply not right for my setup
Luckily, I have the opportunity to test the other bov, if it doesnt correct it, its no loss to me. But Im willing to bet that it will outperform any diaphram style bov, and alleviate my problems. Im actually pretty excited about it, by watching that comparo video, it opens so damn fast, thats just quicker I can get boost back in there.. we'll see
I must say I am intrigued about that BOV. Looks to work quite well, will be looking forward to the review when you get it installed. Did Rich's help the problem??

Why is there so much animosity between you two? It's like a love/hate relationship, but about 10/90 balanced. Here's a thought: let's support each other in our endeavors and offer advice in the interest of serving our fellow enthusiasts. If the advice isn't taken, or refuted, well you did your part. We're here to have fun, not fight.
