Bad ass, good news Eric! Just keep us updated on when you're doing the install and I'll see if I can make it.

UPDATE:

Install is 95% complete, got everything in except the FMIC (waiting to get my intake and bov back from a friend that I let borrow).. Besides the ER visit last nite, everything went pretty good.

I can tell you this.... I would do 20 downpipe installs before I did 1 manifold install, and Id do 20 manifold installs before I did a turbo swap.. Without instructions, It was pretty difficult to finally get everything unhooked from the turbo, and actually out of the car. Taking the water line off the turbo was a huge mess, I lost almost all my antifreeze on my shop floor in a matter of 45 seconds...

I stripped the post converter O2 sensor ($190), and couldnt get one of the manifold bolts out of the stock turbo ($4).

Once again, this was one of those last minute decisions to rip my car apart, and once I started, I just kept n going. I want to give a big thanks to Tbot, who showed up at my shop without knowing what was going on, and he took his coat off and started getting greasy with me, thanks again, bro...u da man..

Unforutunately, I dont have too many first impressions because I have to baby the new turbo for a few days, but I can tell there are quicker revs now, and with the tips cut off my Magnaflows, it sounds WAY BETTER..(thanks for the tip, Rich). Also, even with my stock intake, and stock BPV, I can hear the turbo spool with that inlet pipe, its gonna be awesome once everything is in.. Its a shame that the stock intercooler hides all these new beautiful pieces. Once the fmic is in, I will take some pics..

You lucky SOB. I'd love to be able to convince the wife to let me do a turbo swap. I'm having a hard enough time convincing her of the benefits of EMS.

UPDATE:

Well, last nite was interesting to say the least. I got my car back from Mazda yesterday. They fixed the TSB on the leaking transfer case. So back to putting the mods on, I get back to my shop, install the standback, set it to 18psi, and make a little run up and down the street. The car felt VERY strong, and pulled really hard. Happy as can be, I get ready to go home for the day, get about a mile from my shop, and the turbo stops boosting... all it does is make a supercharge-like whistling sound.. So I go back to the shop, check for boost leaks, everything is fine. It boils down to a turbo failure, most likely either a broken shaft, or failed compresser bearing. SO, with that being said, I have to rip the f'n thing off again, and send it back, so they can send me a new one...

ahhh another glorious day with the mazda.

Thank god I have another car to drive, and enough room in my shop to have the car ripped apart for a while, and still be able to conduct business..

Updates to follow soon..I HOPE

Is this turning into a common occurance with the rebuilt stock turbo? I know of one on 6club that screwed the turbo, and now yours. I can't imagine there are too many of these things on the road.

The other you are referring to, MZSpeed, is having the SAME issue with his as mine. Seems this batch that was reworked had some issues, although those particular issues are still unknown.. He has shipped his turbo back to PT, and is due to be inspected tomorrow, so we'll see

Bummer to hear about the turbo failure. Hope they can get you a new one quick, and you can be on your way to having a brutally fast MS6!
