Ford planning to sell Mazda shares

Interesting. I kinda have mixed feelings about it, even though I know most people think Ford is some kind of evil step parent.

I was raised a Ford fan so for me it's sad to see how poorly the company is doing in recent years. Mazda does seem unaffected by Ford, at least from an American perspective...however a lot of Mazdas are largely based of Ford Global platforms. (Example, the Mazda 3 is based off the Ford C1 platform, which was a joint venture between Ford, Mazda and Volvo.) I'm no expert but it looks like without Ford we would not have the current lineup of Mazda cars, or at least, they would be radically different. I kinda hope they do sell Mazda though, then maybe we'll get the euro Focus, Mondeo, etc. :)

This is especially true with the Duratec engine family. Our 2.3L DISI derives from the Duratec, and the future EcoBoost from Ford may cross to Mazda as well. I expect costs to go up for R&D, but the overall effect will depend on who buys the shares Ford is selling.

Strange. I always thought Ford used Mazda's 4-cyl to create one for their cars. Guess I had it backwards.

This would be sad. I was reading that Ford is talking about bringing the Focus RS over to the US.

When I pulled the calipars off my 2008 Mazda 3 hatch back to paint them red I was amazed to see FoMoCo imprinted on the calipers. I am all for american made and never really been a Ford guy. Most of my V8 beasty cars were Chevy built. But I am all for made in America. As far as My Mazda cars damn I love both my 1992 Miata and my 2008 mazda 3 5 door hatchback.
