Nothing but a headache

Postby firestoned » Fri Sep 19, 2008 9:14

My car is about to go up for sale, Im so tired of the shit..... Sill Ter-har says they cant find anything wrong with the car, because its not smoking anymore.. When I had my downpipe and exhaust on, the damn thing would BILLOW out at stop lights. I told service that it hasnt done it since I put the stock pipes back on, they said, "thats ok", bring it in anyways... Now they say come and get it, drive it until it smokes, then bring it back in. I even have video of the car smoking like a beeatch, and they wont look at it until I drive it for at least another week.

So n other words, with both cats on, they are removing the smoke that the turbo is creating, or the backpressure is there again, either way, the car doesnt billow anymore, and theres nothing they will do until it does.

Im not keeping a car with a fucked up turbo, so if they dont fix it after my "week of driving it around", im trading the piece of shit in, and staying away from Mazda...

Anybody have any suggestions?

I'm having this exact problem after doing my TBE. Major smoke. I should probably just go back to stock exhaust, im not excited about getting it looked at after hearing this. Sorry to hear about this Eric.

Unfortunately, I doubt there's anything else you can do. Perhaps drive the shit out of it, push as much boost as you can, and force a failure. Then they'll have to look at it. PnP ftw.

Often times, when you change out parts that the OEM spent a great deal of time engineering to work in harmony together, you end up screwing something up or making the end product not as refined or reliable as the original.

+1 one for the fuck shit up idea. Or even more destructive go and hallow out your cats.. then bring it in with what appears to be the stock parts and mad smoke now that the "cats" wont be masking it.

^bad idea though as you ruin your oem parts. I wonder if Josh could help you out.

Guys why not just have them take off the stock downpipe and run the car? Then they can't say anything

I ran into the same problem. The dealer drove it and drove it (probably just around the block) and said the could never get it to smoke. The secret is to get your turbo nice and hot, then let it idle. After idling for about 2 minutes the smoke starts to spill out and it is something the dealer cannot turn down. IF you have a car that smokes that bad at idle, there is a serious problem. Try it at home and see if you can get it to smoke at idle. Good luck, if not I hear those SRT-4 are really nice. Trade you strait-up.

Its a hell of a lot easier to get the turbo to smoke with the dp on... I havent seen it smoke oncew since the stocker was reinstalled

that's good at least. Only smokes like that at idle? Perhaps you could pull the intake and check for oil residue in the intake track. Also, did you say if it does this right at startup or after it's warm?

only when the turbo is hot.. the seals are meant to be held in place with backpressure, so once the cats are off the car, the backpressure is gone, which lets the seals "float" in the turbo when its hot. When they arent set right, oil drips into the turbo, and creates the nasty whte smoke.. my problem is that the cats and stock exhaust are "masking" the smoke from the dealer..
