I'm considering also upgrading my motor mounts. Complete set cost about $329.00. A little steep just for mounts not sure of the benefit/cost value. What do you guys think? MazdaTom & jdmsp? Did you notice a difference?

Factory mounts are easily torn. Even with my non-turbo automatic, my front and right side mounts were torn. I first did the AWR front mount (88 durometer) with the side inserts. I drove around like that for over a year. Much less engine movment with no real cabin vibration problems- except at idle my radar detector would sometimes bounce on the windshield pretty good. Throttle response seemed to improve as well. Then I added the 88 durometer AWR rear mount. Resonance at idle (especially when the weather is cold) is pretty bad. With the weather warmer now, it doesn't seem as bad (but maybe I'm just used to it now). And once the engine comes down out of that initial cold start high idle, things get better too.

All in all, I'm pretty happy. I would be curious to see the difference with a softer durometer though. I read somewhere that the 88 durometer was recommended for autos- although I've never found out why.

I would get it with the EGR. You guys still have emissions up there, and they can fail you for not having it, plus it is beneficial to the cars operation. It can end up sending codeand giveing you a cel. If you can get it with EGR, do it, it will save you some grief.

The EGR bypass that I mentioned still leaves the EGR in place and active, it is just breathing air from the engine bay and not from the exhaust. No CEL from that. And I if Albert can get smogged by one of those on-ramp drive by stations, then an inspector wouldn't be able to see that the EGR isn't hooked up right- but I doubt they would know if it was or wasn't anyway.

Now isn't the purpose of the EGR suppose to help lower combustion temps or something- which seems counter intuitive? Not having a functioning EGR in that respect, I don't know the effects. I could probably look it up, but I'm too hungry right now.

What did you end up going with Albert?

I have the mounts sitting here but I am waiting on either a pnp intake manifold to pop up at mazdas247 or I might bite the bullet and order the protegegarage 626 manifold. I have been reading a bit on it and someone was saying I would have to relocate a bunch of crap and the fuel rail is a bitch or something like that not real sure though cause he was trying to sell his pnp manni and every other review I read on the 626 PG manni was rated as easy and straight forward just time consuming so ?

The fuel rail issue- that's the first I've heard of it. If you have cruise control (which I don't think MSPs have), then you have to splice a vacuum line to get that operational. Other than that, it's a pretty easy install.

I can't remember his name- MP3 guy near the Springs.... I think he got a 626 manifold. I don't know what he did with the MP3 intake.

And is Buffalo getting a new intake manifold with his ProtegeGarage engine that he's getting? If so, then he'll have 2 manifolds......

So everybody should win here. If Buffalo wants to port/polish/remove the VTCS on his blown motor's manifold now and swap it with the "new" motor's manifold when it arrives, then Albert can have the "new" manifold.

I felt that it was one of the best mods I've done to my car.

That sounds good to me, however, i don't know how to Port or polish or remove Vtcs. Is there a DIY over on mazda247 that i can read?

Remember to use WD-40 as a lubricant when doing the porting- it's much easier and goes much faster when you use WD-40.

The overall project is actually very easy- especially if you aren't having to rush the project. I didn't take any pics when doing mine. It was my first porting attempt as well.

Cool. Thanks for all the info by the way. It really helps out to have you as a resourse. I tried to sign up on that other forum but it keeps saying i am putting the wrong info in. I have to wait 15min before i can try again.

EDIT: I was finally able to get logged in over there and i found the PDF for the process. I should be good now. Thanks.
