Actually it COULD be considered a traffic infraction, here's why.
Under Colorado revised statues 42-3-202 Number of plates to be attached section 2(a) includes: (2) (a) Every number plate shall at all times be securely fastened to the vehicle to which it is assigned, so as to prevent the plate from swinging.
If it is in the window is it securely fastened?
Also under section (2) (B) A person shall not operate a motor vehicle with an affixed device or a substance that causes all or a portion of a license plate to be unreadable by a system used to automatically identify a motor vehicle. Such a device includes, without limitation, a cover that distorts angular visibility; alters the color of the plate; or is smoked, tinted, scratched, or dirty so as to impair the legibility of the license plate.
Your front windshield could be considered a "device" that distorts angular visibility or that the window is dirty/scratched, ect....
Also depending on where the plate is in the window an argument could be made that it may block some of your view of the roadway and then you open yourself up to another violation.
If the officer feels it violates it then you can get the ticket, it appears that in most cases probable cause will exist to issue you a summons.
Bottom line is those are all reason you could get a summons. A key component is the COULD. You can always go present your case in court that your particular set-up doesn't violate these statutes. Probable cause is the "standard of proof" for issuing a summons, beyond a reasonable doubt the "standard of proof" for a guilty conviction. Probable cause is much lower than beyond a reasonable doubt.
Ultimately it would be decided by a judge or jury if it is illegal or not.
It's a traffic infraction, which = not jailable, and is usually just a fine. If you can accept the fine and the possibility that you can get stopped and sited for the violation and that any other violation that may be identified from the stop, then leave it off.
If you can' t deal with it, then put it on and then you don't have to worry about it.

And there we have it. I'll have the dealership attached the bracket. They should have done that before selling me the car, IMHO.

Chris...that's why you see it every day. You work downtown. What I do is keep some zip ties in my trunk and zip tie my front plate to the grill whenever I have to park downtown. Those people have nothing to do BUT look for something to write a ticket for. I've been rockin' front plateless on just about everything I've driven since I've been driving. I have NEVER gotten a ticket for no front plate. I have only been hassled for it ONCE, and that was in a Grand Caravan I used to drive. State Trooper was very friendly, told me to get it taken care of. I forget why she pulled me over in the first place, but she basically did a car seat check on my kids and told me about the plate. This was I-25 S. somewhere around Monument.
Not sure what you do to draw attention to yourself....but I drive a SRT-4 with a side exit exhaust no muffler, no cat that's loud as fuck, and I've never been worried about no front plate.
Windshield is just as illegal as no front plate at all, and attracts MORE attention.
I laugh at every car I see with a plate in the front window, because not only are they breaking the front plate requirement law, they are making it more obvious.
I see people get ticketed for it EVERY day. I work downtown, and meter maids issue no front plate tickets to anyone who doesn't have it mounted in the right spot.
To add, I do not run a front plate on any of my cars. Nor will I ever.[/b]

I also have gone YEARS without rocking a front plate in the Denver Metro area. Got pulled over only once for it in Lakewood and the Cop let me go when he saw and asked about my Marine Corps tattoo on my right forearm. Lol
And Lee... fill up your holes already too on your front bumper!

I don't worry about it either, and I park downtown at meters almost weekly. If I get one? Oh no.
(now that I said that I'll undoubtedly get pulled over on my way to work tomorrow for this)

I hate the damn plate mount on the MS6 it looks sooo much better without it. So far I have been pulled over twice and the cops never said anything. The first time was because I was sitting behind some bulding in denver trying to keep warm becuase it was damn cold and I wating for the line to die down at some place. The second was because I forgot to turn on my lights driving home which was only a mile away. That time I was so confused because I had just turned on a doubble turn with the cop and so I was watching myelf letting him go ahead of me then all the sudden he slowed down got right behind me and pulled me over. Ofcourse I realized why as soon as i could not see what was infront of me on the side road I turned off on to. But ya main idea is that niether said anything about my front plate being off.

It would just have to be my luck that after I say something I get pulled over for it! I was just driving along on my campus at night and at 1:30 a.m. mind you! So anyway I am wating at a turn when a car comes along turns out to be a cop so I thought I pulled a good move when I did not pull out infornt of him even though I had plenty of room. So he goes by and I pull out behind him and we are just driving along when he decides to get behind me (at this point I know I am getting pulled over but I can't figure out why) and after we make a turn on to a side road he pulles me over and asks why I don't have a front license plate. I tell him I just got it back form some body work and they forgot to re mount the front mounting plate and he says "ahh ok". I think im off the hook but then comes back with a 18.60 doallar ticket. AHHHH ya so its only 18.60 but still, I have a clean record and everything It just pisses me off. This better not affect my insurance. O btw when I went to park in the parking lot 8 ppl did not even have a front plate at all and 3 more had a CU plate cover. What a dick not even a warning just gave me the ticket.
LOL, well, I guess I'll mount the front plate somehow...ick...
