Ingalls Stiffy ETD

Woo. Got the engine torque damper installed by Adam at Ingalls Engineering in Louisville this morning. You'll have to wait for any impressions, as I pretty much drove over to Eclipse for the Laminx headlight covers (looks GREAT!!) then home. I'll take pics of the gunsmoke Laminx once I can wash the car.

Yup, it's definitely a well crafted piece. Adds a little more sparkle under the hood if nothing else. I'll have to see if I really feel any difference, my guess is...not really. Ha! The only visual I'd have is seeing it work is on the dyno again.

InGalls makes quaily parts that is for sure. I had the ETD on my Z and didn't notice any difference. However I've read that FWD car benefit more by helping reduce wheel hop.

And I would expect not broken engine mounts as well! RX-7's break mounts easily enough.

Engine mounts are a weak point in the RX-8 as well. It was either go this route, or pony up some money for new mounts down the road.

This is actually than putting more strain on the mounts. Remember that the strain has to go somewhere and it will go to the weakest link. If the ETD is stronger than the mounts than the mounts will break to release that strain.

I thought if the ETD was helping control engine movement, it would reduce the stress that was being transferred to the engine mounts.

It reducing movement but that movement has to go somewhere. That's why they said you'll notice more shaking in the steering wheel and transmission. The movement is being sent there. Make sense?

Along those lines, it helped out my friend in his RSX with limiting the movement of the engine. He said that would trasnslate to more movement of the wheels. Is this correct thinking?

Yeap. The movement has to go somewhere. Most of the time an owner will feel it in the steering wheel. I found my exhaust to move more. So much I had to add 1/4" spacers to my OEM bracing.
