Much closer than you think Andrew...
Road & Track, February 2008 did a comparison of the Dodge SRT4 vs. Mazdaspeed3
1/4 Mile Times:
Dodge SRT4 14.6@100.3mph
Mazdaspeed3 14.5@96.4mph
Curb Weight:
Dodge SRT4 3225 lb.
Mazdaspeed3 3180 lb.
So it obviously comes down to a Drivers race.[/b]
I don't know Jack, look at the trap speeds.... it's obvious R&T probably pulled a better 60 ft time in the Speed3, most likely due to the fact the Speed3 has a LSD (SRT-4 has an open front diff IIRC), combined with Mazda's outstanding torque management system in 1st & 2nd gears. The SRT-4 has an advantage of almost 4mph in trap speeds, which to me, suggests, at freeway speeds, there's a good chance it will pull lol.
Hmmm.... Speed3 vs Speed6 vs Caliber SRT-4.... maybe I should throw the newly "Stage 1" STI into the mix

Although, I would prefer running at Bandi, not only because it's legal, but also due to my cheater ass AWD giving a big advantage from a stop lol. Although I don't think I would need it lol, as here were Road and Tracks results for the STI:
Road and Track from June 2003 (Last time they ran a VF39 powered STI):
WRX STi 13.3@
103.0mph^^^That's stock... she's now making an extra 20hp & 45 ft lb of torque according to Cobb... Dig. Roll. Whatever haha.
Although in the Mazdaspeed3's defense, Road and Track ran a faster time with it in their December 2006 issue.
Road and Track December 2006:
Mazdaspeed 3 14.3@
99.3mphSo maybe they just had a slower car for their last comparo, or the ECU wasn't happy and was pulling timing?!? Either way, should be a good run Speed3 vs Caliber SRT-4.
The fastest
stock times I could find for either over on Dragtimes.com were:
Mazdaspeed3:
14.010@101.020
14.410@99.010
Caliber SRT-4:
14.240@100.300
14.410@103.020
http://www.dragtimes.com/Mazda--3-Drag-Racing.htmlhttp://www.dragtimes.com/Dodge--Caliber-SR...rag-Racing.htmlIf the Speed3's turbo attempted to push extra boost at altitude, I would say it would be one hell of a close race, but then again, Jack's car has a couple minor mods, so now I'm really curious... you guys should run 'em lol.
On another note, I had no idea that Speed3's have made it into the 12's, and what's more, on the stock K04!! That's awesome! What's more, that toolbag Laloosh was able to trap at 111mph with just the CPE CAI, full turboback exhaust, CP-E Standback (pushing 18psi untuned) and ProtegeGarage fuel pump... that's badass!! You can really see the potential of the 2.3L DISI motor, as most port injection, full weight 4 cylinder's running a K04 can't touch 111mph with bolt-ons. I guess the claimed extra 10% torque due to the cooling properties of Direct Injection, combined with the 9.5:1 compression ratio stock, make for a potent little motor. Hats off to Mazda.
Honestly, I prefer the sound of the flat 4, but will never deny the potential of the DISI motor. The only reason IMO, that Mazdaspeed 3/6's aren't running the same times as EVO/STI's, is due to their lack of aftermarket support in comparison. Mazda has never really been a "tuner" car, so the aftermarket is slow to cater to them... it sucks that Mazda only does limited production numbers for their Mazdaspeeds, as I would like to see what people could get out of them on built motors, race gas and a GT35
