So here is my universal iPod / iPhone dock install. Very permanent but it's cool as hell :) I still need to add the finishing touches though (some filler, sand, and final paint coat).

Nice work. post pics when you get it all polished up. I want something that works with all MP3 players but it's like $300 or something like that. Kinda to much for something simple. Why a universal one. Well Apple Sucks... can't state that enough. I have a Zune, My sis has a iPOOD Nano, and well other people have well other mp3 players. why they make everything compatible for the iPod and not just put a 3.5 mm connection I will never know.

Anyways, hurry and clean that up.

Couldn't agree more!

I have an iRiver MP3 player. It only has like 512 MB of storage (which is about 8 hours worth of music at a typical compression). Plus it's small and fits in an arm band- I wear it alot while running. And I have a radio tuner and I can record audio via the microphone, and I can record via the aux input- pretty sure the iPod can't do any of those.

Or my Sirius sat receiver acts as an MP3 player when it's not docked. It records stuff off the sat air waves from channels that it deems as my "favorites". Plus I can move a song into my favorites collection if I like it. And I can upload about 500 MB worth of my own MP3s onto as well.

I have been looking at the zune. I am sick of CDs. I have about 80gb of mp3s on the computer and I can't listen to it in the car.

Well with Apple products, you either love'em or hate'em. I went universal with the dock for any future apple mp3 players that I may purchase. Personally I love the iPhone and the iPod, hence why I went with the apple dock instead of some goofy looking tray thing where I can place any ol' mp3 player via a 3mm jack. Plus I think wires are ugly and belong out of sight ;) lol.

My reasons behind sticking to apple mp3 players are:
1. Insane amount of accessories
2. Standard 'ipod connector' port (even though USB would hve done just fine... Apple is money hungry in that respect)
3. Soon all digital music purchases will be sans DRM, so I'm not worried about apples DRM (plus it's crazy easy to unlock wihout suffering quality degredation)
4. Stylish! (even if it's played out lol)

Thanks for all the input! I feel special now lol :)

I have to say it......I just have to......IPHONE SUCKS!!!!

IT'S NOT A PHONE.... IT'S A FREAKIN GOOD MEDIA DEVICE THAT HAS A PHONE FEATURE AND CAMERA...... SPEND THE MONEY ON THE IPOD TOUCH AND GET THE BIGGER HARD DRIVE!!!

ok that's all. Thank you for taking the time to read. Back to the post. Love the location you chose. Hurry and get it done.

I'd rather have both. There's so much more that a phone is and does and is supposed to do. The Iphone ruines the whole phone experience. Great Media device though I'll give that to apple. It's not a phone at all. To top it off it's not even a smart phone so I don't know why people call it one.

This weekend is supposed to be damn nice - so I'll probably finish it up by Sunday :D

I DO agree with Greek in the fact that the iPhone lacks much needed memory. I had to whiddle down some of my fav playlists to make them fit. But you know Apple - the next iPhone will be 16gb - 32gb and do even MORE ridiculous stuff. They need to keep that hook in you to force you to mentally justify spending ANOTHER $300 - $400 only 12 months after you've just spent the same amount on the previous iteration lol.

But that hook is in me... :)

I have mine in my glovebox. I have the AXXESS adapter so I can see the track/artist info on the stock display and change tracks w/ the steering wheel controls. The adapater actually locks the buttons on the iPod itself when its plugged in but I kind of like having it in the glovebox anyways. No one knows its there and I keep the glove box locked. Even co-workers that have been in my car a million times think I'm just playing MP3 cd's lol
