Re: Build thread

Postby speedjunkie » Mon Jul 06, 2015 9:14

Sometime in August hopefully. I should be back from here around 5 August, then I hope to go home to get the car right away. But that depends on work letting me go right away and the car being completely finished. I really want to do a big get together still this summer, and I still want to start the event to drive the good mountain roads.

I figure all the other events are large now but started small, so ours should be no different. I thought we could do a year or two just finding good roads and start inviting people and see how it goes. Then if it's good, the word will spread and it will grow naturally. Even if it doesn't, I don't care. I'm just trying to show our good roads to outsiders that don't want to drive all the way to DGRR. Something else I thought about, we could possibly drive in the mountains near CS one day, then move up to near Denver the next day, then even outside Loveland the next day. Or just have the three different sections and let people choose where they want to go. That's something that no other event has.

I've been thinking the same thing. If we could get a few people from out of state to make it to an event like that, we could really get it going.

Yeah in just a few years it could be a big deal, but it would also be lots of work lol.

Chris sent me a couple pics today of progress he's making on the harness. With the second pic he said it was ready to test fit in the car. I can't wait to see it finished in all it's beautiful glory lol. It looks like a nightmare, so I'm glad it's him taking care of it and not me.

He also told me FFE got back to him on the new injectors and it'll be $100 more to swap, so I'm doing that too. WOOHOO!!

When does he expect to have the car done?

Not sure. I'd think within the next week or so, but there will probably be a few bugs to work out with so much being new. Early in the week he said first start up should be late this week, and I mentioned that maybe that should wait until the new 1700 injectors are in, but he didn't respond to that so I'm not sure what he's going to do. Really it's up to him, he's the one buying the 1300 injectors, so if he doesn't mind them being slightly used, so be it. I can't pick up the car until probably mid August anyway, so I'm hoping with the extra time all bugs can be worked out.

I think my heart skipped a beat lol. Such a shame most of it will be hidden, it's so beautiful lol.

EDIT: He just sent me this pic too. He's not playing around lol. I like how much simpler, cleaner, and smaller this one is.

This is where the airbag used to be. It's a fusebox and Bluetooth module. He didn't have enough room to mount them down by the ECU.
Image

He said he has to make extensions for the knock and oil temp sensors because he forgot about the coils being in the way. He said on Monday he'll power it up and do sensor checks. Then he has to get with Syvecs about the possible OMP solution and he's ready to start it. WOOHOO!!!

I have a very exciting update. I've reached the point in my build, at least this part of the build lol, that I'm down to buying parts I don't really need just so I'll have something to do lol. Plus, I got these for less than $10 shipped. Polished stainless laser etched door striker covers.

When I get the car repainted and it actually has a good paintjob, I might replace the aluminum door sills that I have with a new set that aren't dented and scratched so that they match these. Eh. Maybe this is turning into a show car lol. I'd rather it be more functional though. I figured for as little as these cost though, why not. Although they do add weight. LOL

You need a more functional wing. I would suggest one that can be angle adjusted from the driver's seat.

Go forth and spend!

Lol, I agree, especially considering I don't even have a wing, it DEFINITELY needs to be more functional. Lol

I was actually talking to a drift buddy and he was saying we should build a wing that attaches to the actual chassis instead of pushing down on the hatch like most do. So we might do that. But if I do that, I'm going to do a lot of aero on the front of the car too. And I want the wing on the rear to be easily detachable.

I got an update from Chris. He ordered the injectors from FFE, and he turned on the power and the ECU is talking to everything, but it took him a lot of work with the ECU that he hadn't planned. He said first startup should be next weekend now.

Supposedly that's the only way a wing really works. Having one mounted on the trunk / hatch, air just flows around it instead of over it. Or so I read. I see so many controversial opinions on that, as well as if spoilers (like a duck-bill type, or other spoiler that actually obstructs air) are better for a street car. But one thing that's not controversial is that wings only really work at high speeds (like 70+ MPH). And you've got the right idea by doing aero on the front, if you do the rear. It's a package deal :)

I didn't even know you were still on the forum lol.

I don't know much about aero, but I do know that if I concentrated only on the rear and did nothing on the front my steering inputs would be less useful lol, not to mention unbalancing the car in general. I want to be able remove the wing for the street.

^^ That's me. I thought I was logged in. I thought it was weird when it was asking me for some sort of verification.
