Great progress! What's more impressive is that you have enough energy to work on your car at night. I'm usually too exhausted after I get home from work.
Btw, who are you using for powdercoating? I have a few things I'm considering getting coated.

Thanks! I didn't think about it until after I made the wires, but I wonder if there will be problems if all the lines aren't the same length. I figure it'll be fine since the stock lines aren't the same length.

I've thought about making them or having them made actually. I can't be the only one that wants to mount them in the stock location. There are several things I want to mass produce actually.

Thanks! Speaking of energy and working on it at night...lol. When I got home from work this afternoon I painted the front cover and decided to do what Jason was talking about doing with his and paint the CHRA of the turbo since it was all rusty. Anyway, I sprayed the turbo earlier and left for the night. I got home around 230am and couldn't help but to put the turbo back together lol. I finished it around 330am I think.
I go to R&S Powdercoating on Paonia, just off Omaha. I had most of the engine pieces done by a company in Denver back in 2009, and R&S doesn't exactly match the older pieces, but it's close enough for now lol.
I've been waiting on the check valves to come from Summit Racing, and originally they said delivery would be no later than 31 August. Well, I got a post card from them today saying they wouldn't be shipped until 14 Sept, and if it turned out to be even later I'd get another post card. Screw that. So I ordered some Russell check valves and emailed them to cancel the original order.
Here are pics of the progress. The black sometimes looks like charcoal gray, but it's definitely black. And in some of the pics it's just primer, so it is gray.

I went running around today to find parts I need to finish this build. I got some fittings and hose from Whisler Bearing for the fuel system, 3 sets of spark plugs from two different Napa stores, a couple tools from Harbor Freight for cutting and bending the coolant hard lines for the wastegates, ACE Hardware for some o-rings and stuff, and then there was the saga of the submersible fuel line.
I don't remember if I mentioned it before, but I bought some fuel hose for inside the fuel tank from Pep Boys. Then I wondered if it was really submersible so I asked them when I was in their store again, and the kid said it was because it was fuel injection hose. Clearly this genius doesn't know the difference, so I disagreed and he asked his manager (supposedly) and then came back and said it was indeed submersible. I still didn't trust them so I looked it up and asked the manufacturer of the hose and they said it isn't. So I looked it up and it said Napa carried some. I stopped by the one on North Academy this morning and they said the South Academy store had some, so I went there and the guy sold me some hose and when I asked him once more if it was submersible he said it was. I looked it up online as soon as I got in the car and everything I could find said it wasn't. I walked right back in and asked another guy about some Napa submersible fuel line and he said none of his stores had any. I looked up other submersible line and found that O'Reilly carried it, so I went there. They couldn't find any at the Betty store, which is the largest one, so they ordered some from Denver that will be here tomorrow. It damn well better be submersible. If I come across another auto parts store asshat that tries to act like he knows everything and tells me that non-submersible hose is submersible, I'm going to beat him with the very hose he's selling me. I went to numerous different stores today looking for that hose, including Bap Geon, and no one had any local. The guy at Autozone tried to tell me that all their fuel injection hose is submersible so I had to school him also.
Anyway, now to the good part of the day. Jesse came over tonight and helped me put the engine together. I'm really glad he did because we zipped it out pretty quick, way faster than if I'd tried to do it myself. We got it all together, all I have to do tomorrow is put the flywheel and clutch on, torque the front bolt, and put on the oil pan. Here are some pics, but not one that shows how far we got tonight.




Oh yeah, so last night after I saw that the check valves wouldn't ship until 14 Sept, I bought some Russell ones from Summit and those were in stock and they were even cheaper. Guess what showed up in the mail today...ARGH!!!! Anyone wanna buy some Summit Racing check valves? lol

The ones I got in the mail I got from Summit and they will still work, so I'm kinda thinking about just using them so I can get this thing on the road again ASAP, but I think the Russell ones might be shorter which will give me some more room to fit all the other parts into such a small space. It just depends on how long those will take to get here.

I agree. I'm getting so exhausted though lol. Bobby Crivin just left around 130 lol. He stayed late to help me make coolant lines for the turbo and assemble the last few things. Plus he was cleaning stuff left and right, which is something I really didn't feel like doing haha. He's a trooper.
Today we put on a lot of the accessories like the water pump housing and water pump, knock sensor, LIM, fuel rails, OMP, oil pan, clutch, and put on the turbo and manifold to make the coolant lines but removed that stuff again to take off the extra weight. Those coolant lines were a PITA. Trying to push the push-lok fitting on and also trying to get the Oetiker clamp where it needed to be and crimp it down, which we were unable to do so we just left it and I'll probably just put something like a wormgear clamp on there. I also got two feet of submersible fuel hose from O'Reilly, FINALLY. And it was only $30 per foot, what a deal! lol
Tomorrow I plan to finish assembling the long block, mate the transmission to the engine and fill the tranny with oil, drop the engine into the bay and bolt everything up under the car and then make the rest of the oil cooler lines. I'm also planning on changing the hoses on the fuel pumps and finally getting finished with all that mess. I also might call Aeromotive about getting some foam they have to use in the fuel tank to prevent fuel slosh under as much as possible under hard cornering. They use that foam in their fuel tank kits in the same way, so I figured it should work for me.

I didn't do a whole lot with the car yesterday. I got a new bolt for the engine mount bracket but the hole was stripping so I borrowed a tap from Andy and he told me I should go with studs, so now I'm waiting on those lol. I'm still planning on dropping the engine in for the time being just to make the oil cooler lines and fuel lines, then I'll pull it back out and do the studs when they get here and then get the engine ready to go in for good.

Actually it looks way better in pics lol. It's not wanting to stick in several places now. And if you have the stock LIM I think it would be much more difficult.
I dropped the engine into the bay today to make oil cooler lines and fuel lines. The oil cooler lines look like they might work the way I hoped (other than maybe buying a couple different fittings), the fuel lines...not so much. The huge fuel filter I have is too long with all the fittings to fit behind the UIM, so I'm going to get some smaller filters and mount those and the check valves and pressure sensors on the rear subframe (the check valves and sensors won't fit where I wanted them either). Here is the filter I'm looking at. It looks like it might be small enough.

I'm actually kinda happy about this. I was somewhat worried about two -6 lines not being able to fill and constantly pressurize the large filter, especially right before going into the fuel rails.

They make a phenolic gasket that doesn't transfer heat, but it had a hole cut into it that gave me a vacuum leak, so I took that piece to a water jet guy downtown and had him waterjet a couple spacers so my fuel rails wouldn't press against each other. I got the phenolic gasket just to use as a spacer with the added benefit of not transfering heat. If it weren't for that hole cut in it, it would have worked.
The gold heat shield I got from Pegasus Auto Racing. I've heard the foil color heat shield works better though.

I'm looking at getting PN 1073, the 10 micron big filter. $54 isn't too bad. They sell the fittings to fit the ends too.
Something I thought about though...if my pumps push 340 LPH (90 GPH), do I want a filter that flows more than that as long as the fuel stays pressurized in the filter, or do I want a filter that flows less and restricts flow a little so that the lines stay pressurized?
