I didn't get my first payed job till I was 18. I worked for my parents officially from when I was about 14. We build our own house completely. After school every day we would drive out to the house site and I would work on everything from framing to plumbing to electrical to tarring a foundation. I did get my gas and insurance payed those years so in a way I did get payed. And I had food to eat (nothing like alex). After we put a few hours at the house, we would eat dinner and than I would work on homework late. When we moved into the house, we had a microwave, single electric burner, and we washed the pots in the shower. We has little portable electric heaters. I remember the Christmas we painted the plywood subfloors to look like carpet so it felt like a finished floor and we wouldn't get splinters anymore. I wouldn't take any of it back. I would never have learned how to work on my own house if I hadn't had those experiences.
My childhood was hard but that is another story. No heat though a winter in NY with the back end of the house opened up, grand parents bringing their leftovers so we had dinner, etc.

Working a half a day or OT at work, knowing I am going to the bank to cash a check, but stupidly forgetting until now, that I forgot the check. Having to drive home after OT today & 1p, just to drive back down town in pueblp to do something that should only take 30 mins annoys me. But then again, hardly any sleep and working the last 3 days 11.05 hours and still thurs and Friday with normal Saturday hours, I'm pooped.
