How can we get more of the Denver people to show up at meets?

This is what i would do for a meet on a weekend

Two meets a month to start. One on the first weekend and the second on the third weekend of the month. Offset them so first meet would be saturday and second meet would be sunday. That way people that cant make one should be able to make the other.

Things to do at meets.
Eat. Doesnt have to be a sit down place. Fast food, buffet, sit down place. That can be decided between everyone.

Bowling. For those who dont want to eat they can just meet at a bowling place and just play a couple games of bowling. I suck at it but its fun.

In door go carts for winter times. There is one near 470 and peoria i believe its called speedway.

Movies. Cheap entertainment and will kill a couple hours.

Soccer, football, baseball, concerts can be a great way to have fun.

Other things people like to do. Photography, fixing cars, detailing, cruising.

Finally those who drink can drive to a bar after that. People who dont want to eat or hang out and just want to go for drinks after can catch up with the others at a bar.

Getting each others numbers will help a lot. Texting or calling someone will make it more friendly and new people will feel more welcomed.

Pictures. Sounds weird but maybe if others saw how much fun it is to go to meets then they will start to show up.

What about a BBQ get together at a members house? We used to do this nearly monthly all the time in my old Arizona Mazda Club and they were always a HUGE hit.

We would also usually open up the garage so people who need help wrenching on their car, whether it be mods or maintenance, would get a hand doing so.

Like I said, these meets were always a wild success.

I wouldn't worry about this. I don't drink and I know tut and speedjunkie don't really drink. We aren't the only ones either. I don't usually go to Denver meets because of the drive but I have been to some. I also wouldn't worry about being left out of conversations. When there are ten plus people at a meet, there are usually a number of conversations going on at once so it is easy to find one that you can relate to.

This. When I was working in Denver I went to a couple of the BWW meets and we just got some food and had maybe 1 or 2 beers. It wasn't like a night of wild drunken abandon. So you'd be fine coming and just having a soda and some wings or something.

Ya, I don't really drink either... you can only eat so much wings. Some kind of fun activity would be good. Maybe a CMZC shooting day at some secret location somewhere in the woods? That might be a little dangerous though... LOL.

Go-Karts?

Weekend would be better too.

Like chickenwafer said, Get together at someone's house sounds OK too... as long as it's not my house. lol

Go Karts would be fun. D Walker suggested a track day.

Also, as far as wings go, you are right...I usually topout at around 64.

Shooting, I d shoot with a few people on here, but not sure I'm ready to go to a shooting meet...unless its with the NRA

Actually, I would be curious if people would be interested in shooting a round of sporting clays...I'm guessing it would eliminate a lot of people though.

I understand why my wife gets so frustratd with me...the whole thought was in my head, but never finished.

Eliminated due to equipment requirements (100 round of shells, shotguns, then range fee) it is like a 100.00 day, which I bet most people here would rather spen on car oriented stuff.

1. I'd say meeting more frequently as an effort to increase attendance is rather backasswards.

2. Other than what seems to be a significant minority (and/or rotary people), folks are fairly hands off with their cars. More dealership and shop work than DIY. Attempts at tech days have failed miserable (whether at a dealership or someone's house).

3. Weekend events. I'm fine with weekend events. My goal with the BWW meets was to have an established venue that people knew when/where the club was always gathering. That failed, so it began to wander around to various locations where attendance became worse. A repeat weekend event, say Super Cruise in Golden, or Cars n Coffee in Lafayette on the first Sat of every month is cool, but nobody from this site goes. Apparently, people on the car forum aren't interested in cars. What I'm not interested in is hanging out at Sonic with kids in shitbox Civics, WRXs, etc.

4. BBQs are a good idea, but better come spring. If people don't want them at a house, a park (Wash Park or any other public park) is an easy way to do it.

5. I see a few suggestions from younger folks. That's fine. But for some older people (me) with kids (me), it's easier to do things after work during the week.

So far, I've suggested nothing as I'm looking for people that MIGHT ACTUALLY GO to recommend something. As it is, I guess tut, Shadow, and I should just start scheduling happy hour rather than calling it a lame attempt at a "meet".

Let's pick a place to do monthly and keep it set for 3 months and see how attendance fairs. I'd be willing to do anything from Auraria pkwy south to Castle Rock. Wadsworth to Parker Road.

The biggest issue I see is the spread out geography or our demographic here. We have members from Pueblo all the way to Cheyenne and even Nebraska. That is a very large area to try and get consistent attendance from. I know, personally, living up north here, I don't want to drive 2+ hours round trip just to hang out with a few people, which is why I tend to join larger events.

I know the thread title says "Denver people" but I think this can be applied to the whole club. This club is spread out thinly so the major areas (NoCo, Denver, Co Springs) have to kind of survive on their own in terms of meets.

As far as "tech days" at a dealership, I don't personally like them, because a) My car has been out of production for 17 years and I have, to date, only meet ONE dealership employed tech who knew a rotor from an eccentric shaft, b) those tech days are mostly built around stock or stockish cars, which not a lot of us have. I'm personally not that interested, sorry. It also doesn't help that the meet is always at the same dealership, some variety might help.

What I'm talking about it a "Mod meet", held at a members house, to talk and wrench on cars, and possibly have a BBQ. We had a meet very similar to this last summer at Eric's house in the Denver area and I thought the turnout was pretty damn good- we had members from NoCo, Co Springs, and the Denver area, and it was a lot of fun.

I'm not saying this is the only type of meet we need to have, but it goes a long way to help. But yes, this is mostly a Spring/Summer type of meet.

Another thing that tremendously helped the Arizona club was electing a sole individual as an event coordinator. This way we had one point of contact to helping to set up and organize meets. This didn't preclude anyone from starting their own meet or get together, or sharing info for a car show they heard about, but it just centralized the information. In my experience, better organization, better turnout.

How can we get more of the Denver people to show up at meets?
