So my question to everybody is what do you do to keep the lights on that you really enjoy?

I had the same problem along time ago. I kept playing with cars as a hobby and did other stuff for work. Today I'm a courier and I wish I join Fedex back in the 70s instead of 2000 I'd be set as far as retiring. but I didn't think that way in my 20s. Although I thought of driving for a living back then I figured I'd hate that too. So my advice is don't assume that you'll hate as a job things that you like to do in general.

My conclusion is that, find something you enjoy that can remain challenging and push you to contribute thoughts and ideas. its boredom that sucks.
The other thing that can help you in your present job is to write a list of all the positive things about working there. These are called anchors, the thought being there must be some reason you chose to do this.
Keep at the pursuit of happiness Pat, or drink to oblivion.

^How far do you drive as a courier? Do you stay within town or leave for several days? That sounds like a fun job...ie something I could do and be happy for a while lol.

I had this type of epiphany while in school to be a mechanic. As I was going through training and I realized I'm too anal to work on others car and be paid flat rate, and I really only enjoy working on cars/motorcycles when it's something I want to do haha.

So I changes direction and now do something different, still working with my hands which I like. No way could I stand a desk/office space type of job.
