but I don't really enjoy repairing cars as the daily grind anymore. I'm just burnt out, and need something else to do.

So my question to everybody is what do you do to keep the lights on that you really enjoy?

I've never enjoyed repairing cars. I just stick around here for all the cool meets...

Pat, I'm with you. I enjoy the hobby, but not the job. I started off wrenching (back in the carb days). I am still in the industry, but not wrenching directly. Ever think about parts sales, shop management or support jobs like that? You can still pull from your "education" but back off from the wrenching.

I tried street cars and service work a few times. Sucks when the economy is good, sucks more when the economy is "bad". You should play with race cars. Keeps me happy.
Alternatively, I hear that there is room to move as a fry cook!

It's a nice change from BMW, much slower and calmer, but still flat-rate with boring cars like stuparoos, yodas, goverment mobiles, ect.

take a break. build a bike or something. im looking into building a old norton or triumph cafe racer style

Yea I like working on my own cars as a hobby, but don't think I could work on other people's mundane cars for a living.

I'm a Web Developer now. Just finished school last year and got the new job 3 months ago after being in the call center industry for the previous 8 years.

I was thinking about things to do after retirement, and I haven't even worked a day as an auto mechanic other than as a hobby, and I've already had an epiphany...if you enjoy your hobby, never make it your job or it will cease to be a hobby. I would imagine that goes with anything, but I could be wrong.

Like Eric said, if you want to stay in the car industry, do something auto related but not directly working on them. Like "slinging parts for Harry" lol.

If you don't want to do that, just walk away for a while and try something else. If that's possible without too much risk, which is iffy these days.

I have built a few cafe bikes, have a pair of 74 Zuki GT550 two stroke triples, a CB750 and a CB550 twin, all a lot of fun, when I put them together lol

this is the plan, but the school thing needs to happen first. I really want to design the computers/electronics and or suspension systems for automobiles. I think I would really enjoy the work and paycheck, unless "office Space" played itself out. Now where is my stapler......

Dreaming of going back to school, but need the money. I refuse to take out a massive student loan though so I'll be saving for a while longer.

ooo.... pics? im wanting to build a norton or triumph bobber style cafe racer at the moment. just cant decide on a frame.
