Damn Eric, haha I would have gotten a bracket from your guy if I knew! I think I remember you mentioning something about it before but I couldn't remember. They had a sale too so it was "only" $45 bucks shipped so whatever haha. I'm not a fan of SBG either because I think they lie, but whatever.
I got two plastic tubs with lids and put 1 rotor in each and then emptied nearly a can of brake cleaner into each, blasting the carbon. Some carbon has already started to fall off and they are cleaning up. I'll blast them again tomorrow then next weekend I'll take my wire brush to them to get all that carbon off.
I'm now also at the my age old problem of what clutch to get. Originally I was going to get the Bonez clutch from Rotary Performance, but it says it's only rated for 450hp. I emailed RP and they said that's crank horsepower, so right around 400rwhp. I need more but I don't want Eric's pedal feel (no offense Eric haha).
So it looks like my only option is the $1600 Exedy twin plate clutch kit with lightweight flywheel. The only other options are puck style clutches which only last 10,000 miles and harsh engagement or a full face single disc with a sprung type center that means I'm leg pressing 300lbs everytime I shift..no thanks.
My new car!

I might be able to do that, but if I myself do it, I wouldn't be able to until I come home. If you can wait that long I'll do it. Simon or Zico might be able to go with you and get one. I can give you the guy's info and where he is but I don't know what he called that template so you'd have to take one with you so he can see what you're talking about. It might just be easier for me to do it though since he would recognize me, maybe it would jumpstart his memory.

Yeah sorry man, I wish I'd known. I really don't take them at their word anymore. Getting things done or whatever, not so much that. It's when they say they're not making anything off their projects when they took in about $25k for the door handles alone...really? Not making anything off that huh? I don't have anything against them making money, that's capitalism. What I have a problem with is being lied to about it while they're charging people $400 for a freakin door handle. And now they've dropped the price down to $250 or so...hmmm, wonder why that is LOL. Maybe it's because of the competition they welcome so much, yet bash his product in almost every post. THAT is what I hate the most about them. $45 is what Simon paid too...maybe they're actually trying to NOT rip off their customers now since they've been called out by a few of us lol.
And what exactly is wrong with my clutch pedal feel??!! LOL I hear ya. I think the twin and triple plate clutches require less pressure on the pedal, so aside from price I'd say that is your best bet. But that price, YIKES lol. But like Eduardo said, if you're not shooting for something crazy, you might be alright getting the RP one. But obviously you always want to overbuild, just in case you get antsy for more power LOL. Also though, I've used a 6-puck clutch on both my aftermarket clutches and the last one lasted well over 10k miles, more like 40 or 50k actually. I changed it in '05 and just changed it again in '10, and that was going from about 120k to 160/170k miles. I'd love to get one of those twin plate clutches but I wonder about the flywheel it comes with, is it lightweight or more like stock?

Eduardo, I'm just not a fan of puck style clutches. Harsh engagement, low friction zone, they don't last, heavy pedal, the list goes on.
With my turbo and water/meth I'm shooting for 450+rwhp. I'm not gonna lie, I'd love to see 500, but I'm not getting hung up on a number. I want to run 11 second 1/4 miles as well.
I do plan on upgrading to a billet turbo at some point, so I want to overbuild the car as much as possible. I especially don't want to be pulling a motor to replace a clutch every 10,000 miles (even though I've only driven my car about 2,000 miles in the nearly 2 years I've owned it LOL).
Eric, the Exedy twin plate comes with a lightweight flywheel, but it's still around 12-14lbs, so it's not as extreme as most other lightweight offerings on the market, but still less than stock by a good 35%+. Of course I have that nice ACT ProLite that's only 9lbs I want to use

Cool. I'll go get one for you when I get back then.

With my 6-puck...no harsh engagement (although it is a sprung disc as well), and it lasts quite a while. It does have a heavy pedal but that all depends on the pressure plate that you get, not whether it's puck or regular.
Since when do you have to pull the engine to replace the clutch? LOL You just have to pull the tranny, and if you have access to a lift you can do the whole job in about 4 hours.
Hmmm, the Exedy is looking pretty good then, aside from price. I think the stock flywheel is 22lbs, so if it's only 12-14lbs that's almost half actually. ACT and Spec both have twin plates now. ACT doesn't have one for the FD yet though, not sure if they have any for any Mazdas actually, but I would imagine they should be pumping them out for us soon. And I'm not sure about Spec but I'm going to look.
One thing I liked about Simon's clutch was that it didn't surge during engagement like mine sometimes does, and I'm assuming that's because it's sprung. And his doesn't engage harshly either, so I think I'd be happy with that. I do like the idea of a T56 tranny though haha.

What clutch does Simon have?
I'm honestly only sharing experiences I've heard from others, not first, about the twin disc clutches. I've experienced harsh engaging puck-style clutches before and I know I don't want that in my street car. I want as close to a stock pedal feel as possible with being able to hold my 500+rwhp potential rotary. Tall order I know, which is why I'm looking to a twin disc.

^Eric, Looks like SPEC does have new twin disc clutch/flywheel packages for the FD. Just a hair cheaper than the proven Exedy setup, however:

Yeah I checked them out, pretty expensive, although not much more than the Exedy twin disc. I only deferred to the Exedy twin disc because everyone uses it with a lot of success. It's a proven solution, whereas the SPEC unit is more suspect. I think a lot of FD guys have had problems with SPEC clutches.

Yeah I saw those clutches, the one we want is the most expensive one, more expensive than the Exedy twins haha. They have another one for rally too, the R trim. Since it's about the same price I'd probably go for Exedy just because of the good record.
Carbonetics seem like they're really expensive compared to the others haha.
I think Simon has the Exedy twin plate but I don't remember for sure. And IIRC his clutch pedal feel was a lot closer to stock than mine is haha.
