I have a few. 3 Colts (1918, 1945 and an early 50's Commander), 3 Kimbers (two full size one 4") a S&W 1911 and working on a Sig version. I've owned and traded several others. That 15 rd is a Para 14.45 http://www.para-usa.com/new/product_pistol.php?id=11 14+1. They sell these as packages to PD's and other organizations engraved with logos. Mine was a group buy with Englewood P.D. It came with a rail and light, so it's a bit much for concealed work. The rest of my .45's include wheel guns and various autos.

That picture in the link looks like the one I bought, except for the rail and the engraving. I liked the siver/black. Grip is bulkier than a std. 1911, but not as much as I thought.

Deterrent or target?

Postby WINGSPD » Thu Sep 01, 2011 9:14

Dange, You mentioned that you didn't like the concept of the concealed carry and felt that open carry worked as a deterrent. You appear to have a military background, and have experienced that open carry is a deterrent to those who perceive that you are likely to have armed backup close by. But for the average criminal, not in a war zone, the "open carry guy" is the guy you immediately shoot in the back of the head and take his nice open carry weapon. You have lost the element of suprise which is the beauty of the concealed carry. (Not a target, but not defenseless either.) You also make the "sheeple" jittery with open carry, and I guarantee some asshat will call you out on it and others will report you for scaring them.

yeah i grew up around weapons. and in arizona where open carry is a normal situation. at least 3-4 out of 10 people used to open carry. now that you dont need a permit to conceal carry. most those people now just conceal. my dad was never a gun person but my uncles and grandpa were. and we used to go out shooting. and he would only really carry on trips.

and yes most my background is MOSTLY military and some law enforcement. and every time i have ever seen some robbery tape as soon as the robber sees a gun hes in a damn hurry to get out of there.

and for ccw. i cant imagine the recoil from a subcompact .45acp maybe a .40 would be manageable but still would be hard for quick grouping. ive shot all kinds of rounds. but never something that big in a weapon that small.
I could deal with a 1911 in .45 because of the weight and thats what the 1911 was designed for. as long as i had a high capacity.

indeed. My 380 hurts my hand more than a .357 magnum, no joke.

It appears we have an unarmed member. I'd protect you, but unfortunately don't reside in A-town.

I agree with the Springfield Armory votes. My duty weapon is an XD9 service, carry is an XD9 Subcompact. I used an M9 too for eight years. I would never go back. But thats just me...
