I'm with you on this. Since the RX-8 came out (and even before) I've heard at least a dozen rumors of a new RX-7, and so far nothing has come of any of them.iani1.1 wrote:meh, ill believe it when i see it. ive lost hope in mazda putting out a new model RX. all i hear is predictions and nothing ever really comes out of it.

short and simple:
fb - made to last. Light. Agile and strong
I think the fb is the better if not best version of the rx7 generation. It doesn't break apart. The parts were made strong as far as interior wise and didn't compramise. It was light but strong. Low powered but made up for it with agility.
fc - made to last less. Not as light. Agile and semi strong
the fc got a little hevier but stronger. Stock suspension was great. Handled better than it's competition and was cheaper. The interior was okay not perfect. But it lasted over the years. I also think it's more popular because it is cheaper than the fd by a huge amount. And you don't sacrifice much except for looks right out of the box.
fd - made to break. Not as light. Agile and expensive
I think this is were mazda made a mistake. The interior was made thiner and fragile in order to be lighter. But those few pounds saved doesn't make up for cheap plastic. It does handle and does have power. Yes. But for the money it cost no way. For 15k I would rather dump that into a fc or fb and have more fun. And be faster.
rx8 - slower than an fd - agile
the rx8 I think went the wrong way. It's slow honestly. Yes I have driven one and I wasn't like WOW I know it's n/a but what happen there all fd's are turbo and all fc's in japan are turbo. And iirc all rx8 are n/a factory in US specs. They corner that's for sure but that's something new cars should do anyway. It's like saying "well it has good breaks" the rx8 is an awesome car. I like the body lines and interior apears to be good quality. But it's still a new car which I swear the corporate a**holes have designed it to break. That's how they make money.
it's like the bubble gum commercial. If you chew one piece a year they loose money for 364 days a year that you don't buy gum. Now if gum only last 5 minutes you buy and buy and buy. And they keep making money all year long.
so the rx9 yeah it would be awesome but I already. It won't last 30 years on the road. It won't be fast. It won't be light. It won't be cheap. It won't be anything like the fb.
end rant

EDIT: I am NOT trying to offened anyone with an fb fc fd or rx8. I am NOT trying to offened the cars either, my point is Mazda is not building these cars like they used to.

You might be right Eric the link might be a repost... My fault for not looking. Anyways your right Alex... Mazda isn't making cars like they use too. But its not all there fault. We live in a world were there is growing concerns for smog emissions and rising gas cost. Because of that mpg and other things come into factor for building these next generations cars. Will they every be the same as past generations? No... but to me I'd rather live in a world that continues to make rotary engine and not let it die then to stop making them at all. It won't compare to a FB, FC, or FD but at least they are doing there best to make a car similar with all these restrictions that tells them they have to be 80 mpg and run on water or whatever. I say thankyou mazda for keeping the hope alive!

I agree with what you say for the most part. The SA and 81-83 FB interior used a poor quality vinyl that couldn't handle UV rays all that well. They fixed it in 84 with the interior revamp. The earlier interiors are very simple and like a raw classic sports car. They really got it right when they built the SA and FB. It was basically mazda's attempt at the 240Z and it succeeded. It may not be the fastest car on earth but it is extreamly fun and reliable. How many 30 year old cars can you put under $2k into and take to the track and do well and have fun while doing it?

How did this turn into an RX-8 bashing thread? Having owned one of the most modified RX-8's out there, I can say they are great cars.
Mazda wasn't trying to replace the RX-7 feeling...hence why it was named the RX-8 and not an RX-7. Mazda was also after another market, not a pure sports car market like the original RX-7 market was attempting to corner. Remember, Ford still had controlling interest in Mazda at the time the RX-8 was being developed. And the last time the rotary was sold in the USA- under the FD3s moniker- let's face it, it flopped from a customer stand point. Faulty electronics, weak interior parts, and various other flaws preventing the FD from being a "sales" success. So Ford was rightly very cautious with the RX-8.
Mazda added two rear-hinged doors and a usable backseat to make the pencil pushers happy. Also, they had to make the RX-8 naturally aspirated because of emissions. ALL rotaries run dirty because they burn oil by design. The Renesis is still a giant leap forward in rotary technology from a reliability and emissions standpoint. The side exhaust ports allow trapped hydrocarbons at the trailing tip of the combustion chamber to be trapped and carried over to the next combustion cycle. Peripheral port rotaries just push these out the exhaust port.
Mazda still made the RX-8 excel at key things, such as handling, a perfect 50/50 weight distribution, and the materials the RX-8 is made with are very good. They don't fall apart like ALL RX-7's do (this can also be attributed to advancements in materials and building processes since the RX-7s were made).
The point is, the RX-8 is a different rotary animal, and it pisses me off when other rotary "fans" put it down to no end just because it isn't fast. Get over it, it's the only rotary powered car sold in the world so if you're a true rotary-head then you would support it and the fact Mazda is still continuing to develop the rotary. Naturally aspirated RX-8's can put down 210-220rwhp on a stock port motor, not very many other NA rotaries can claim that. And it's a comfortable daily driver to boot.
