Not sure if you all seen the updates on it but I'd though I'd share this link.

Rx-9
Sounds very interesting. I can see this being either really successful if it helps to increase reliability as well as fuel economy or flopping horribly if they don't get it just right. Either way, we will just have to wait and see

I can't wait. I'm not sure if I like he hybrid setup though. Now if this really comes out later next year it may change my view on getting a ms3 or the RX-8. We'll see I suppose.1990 RX-7 'vert black/black -- "Jello Stick"

Just sell your 3 and get an 8 now
You could probably make enough selling it private party to be fairly close to having enough money for an 8.

? Strip out a newer car? My car has lots of creaks, cracks, and I feel every imperfection of the roads I drive and I only have 53k miles.
IMO Cars from the late 80s to early 90s are the worst at almost everything. But i'm pretty sure nothing beats driving an FD out of all the RXs.

an 8 is not as fun as a fb, fc or fd. trust me you dont know

i wasnt talking about just the fc... i know how the fd feels but i much prefer the fc for what im using it for which is to **** up the car beyond all recognition. i honestly would take an fc over and fd any day. crazy? yes but that just me.

O rly??
HAHAHA! Just playin.
Honestly, I've driven a boosted RX-8 and while it's comfortable, I still didn't have as much fun in it as the FD. If I lived somewhere else that didn't have snow in the winter, or if I didn't already have a RWD fun car here, I'd buy an RX-8 for a DD because it's so comfy to drive. It's close to as fun, but not quite. I also am not crazy about the outside design, but it still looks damn good in race car trim haha, and I've seen some modified street models that look really good too.
Now, as for the original post...not gonna happen. Wasn't this car posted on this forum already in another thread? It's been mentioned that it will have a rotary but I'm not even sure of that, even if it DOES make it to production. I'm with Ian on this, I'll believe it when I see it. To many teases from Mazda so far LOL.
yup i love mid - late 80's models.
what boggles me is that how the hell do you get 300hp out of nothing. it may be boosted? but i doubt that. ported? highly doubt it. its hard enough to hit the 300hp reliably with a renesis with a turbo and still pass emissions.
and oh yea suppose to improve fuel economy? from what? 19 to 23 LOL
this probably came from a penkus employee...

"Smaller, lighter, cleaner, more fuel-efficient, and more fun to drive. That's where we want to take the next rotary car," says the Mazda employee.

I see it hitting 300hp with the assistance of a Hybrid system. Would I get one IDK. It's a hybrid so you wouldn't need to take any sort of emissions test. The Hybrid Camry I'm driving around as well as most if not all Lexus hybrids are built for power. I gaurantee I can beat a N/A RX-8 with the Camry. I'm just imagining putting the Renesis in the Camry to replace the puny 4 cylinder engine it has in it. Now that would be even faster.
I see where Mazda is going with it. Do I like the idea? Yes and No.
I'm with Jimmy on the hybrids being pretty powerful. You wouldn't think it to be very powerful, but they definitely can be. My grandpa has an 07 (possibly) Lexus RX400h. I was driving it with him one day from Cafe Rio down on Colorado Blvd over to The Home Depot up the street going the back way and he told me to just floor it at one of the stop signs to see how powerful it was. I've got to say, it threw me back in my seat more than my dad's TL ever has.

with the HSD it adds i guess about 60hp depending on the motor and/or batteries. it might be designed for power and acceleration but most if not all hybrid systems usually turns off at around 30mph or it can run as a booster soo to say when needed like how an automatic transmission has overdrive. with that said, the rx9 will most likely be an auto.
its an awesome concept buuut yea, no im still not sold
