New engine

Yeah. I'm not a fan of buying a car that's been wrecked, but it's about the only CPO 6 I can find in the price range.

And I know I would enjoy a v6 model more. Problem is the insurance would be higher than it already is where we are looking at about $25/mo less with the 3.

Right now the probably candidate is actually an 08 Impreza. We're looking at 3. 2 at Schomp BMW (but idk how willing my dad is to buy at Schomp again when we were guaranteed his TL had never been wrecked and we found out it had after buying it at Schomp Honda) and 1 at some dealership called Denver Auto Company. 1 blue and 1 black at Schomp, both about 33k miles for $15k each and a blue one at Denver Auto Co with about 36k miles IIRC for a little under $14k.

I'm kinda hoping for the Impreza at this point. I doubt I will get another 6 because of my dad's weird idea that owning the same model of car a second time is the worst thing ever, and I like the looks of the Impreza more than the 3. And the AWD is a plus in the Impreza.

You could probably find a used Impreza base WRX like a 05 model for a decent price

if you want to stick with mazda, just get a mazda speed protege. they're are cheap and will get you from point a to point b, later on you can still mod it.

I won't be able to convince my parents to get anything turbo.

I found a 2007 Subaru Legacy 2.5i with 55k miles and the dealership was asking $14k on sale from $17k. Only problem is it's a manual and my sister has been opposed to a manual. Turns out they dropped the price to $13k. I tried to convince my sister to consider the car even though it's manual and she eventually said she would so hopefully my dad will consider the car too.

Subarus are great cars for younger drivers. They're durable, reliable and safe. The only down side is the mileage isn't great, but the additional traction makes a difference, even during dry months. I'm with your parents on you not buying a turbo car. They're more expensive to maintain and you really don't need the additional power, however fun it is. My MS3 has way more power than any sane person needs. Power isn't everything. Most people will get way more out of a well sorted chassis than a big engine. You can drive a slow car at 9/10ths and not be doing anything really unsafe or illegal, where as the consequences of screwing something up in a fast one get really dramatic. An Impreza or Legacy would be a great choice. I drove a 1997 Impreza Outback Sport for several years and it was a great car. Even with 137hp it would do stunning powerslides in gravel or snow. One of the most fun cars I've ever owned.

I agree with Justin. You don't need a Turbo to have a fun car. One of these days, I'll give you a ride in my car and you can see how fun a 135hp car is.
