Thanks for the company and the space Eric, definitely think we should do this again, if only so I can cook :)

I have a new restoration kit in my garage right now. I used it for the first time last week on two cars with fantastic results. Give me a call next time you are passing through Brighton.

roninsoldier83 wrote:Damn good meeting most of you guys today! After my brother and I left, we ended up going to Bandimere, but it was pretty late by the time we got there, not a lot of time for runs. My first pass, and first time launching the car, I babied it off the line at maybe ~2800-3000rpm, and pulled a 13.914@102.31mph, which, not too bad for a ~3800 lbs AWD car, with half a tank of gas, a car seat in the back and a set of jumper cables & small air compressor in the trunk haha. Only thing the car has is a Cobb AP stage 1 flash, other than that, bone stock.

Ran against a new Camaro SS in the left slip, not sure what he had done to it. In the right slip, I tried another pass right before, attempting to launch around ~4500, and it would have been a damn good pass I think if the clutch didn't stick to the floor :( I had to completely let off the gas, shift to 2nd early, and push the clutch down a couple times just to get it off the floor. My guess, if my clutch didn't stick, I would have pulled a much better 60 ft on that run, and ran somewhere around mid 13's at ~103-ish:
Image

In contrast, these were the best times for my brother's LS2 powered 400hp '06 GTO 4AT:
Image

Either way, had a damn good time at the install meet, and a good time (albeit short) at Bandimere afterwards. Hope to see everyone next time out, and maybe I'll even be able to bring my Mazda to a Mazda meet haha!

Nice runs. I had the exact same problem with my clutch sticking to the floor (on the 3-4 shift) on one of my 2 runs at Pueblo last weekend. Wasted a 2.1 60' too. Might have been a 13.2 or better, as I ran 13.62 on the 2nd run with a high 2.3 60'.

That Camaro time surprises me as well, but then looking more closely that is possibly the worst launch in the history of drag racing, lol. 2.68 60'. With that trap he could easily be running in the low 14, high 13 range with a good launch. The GTO times surprise me more than the Camaro times. Those things can be beasts. Was he power braking at the line at all? I know they are heavy boats but I would have thought it would be a lot faster than that. He needs to get some mods on that thing pronto, lol.

Now I'm a bit concerned that I'm going to be disappointed with my times at Bandi when I go next month. I'm hoping that a better track surface will lead to better launches and make up for the higher DA than Pueblo. I guess we'll see.

And back to the topic, yes, huge thanks to Eric for opening up his garage to all of us. I was able to get a project done that I've been putting off for over a year. I shouldn't have stayed BS'ing afterward for as long though. The sun went down while I was driving home with the top down and it got a might bit chilly, heh.

That was a great time! Bellalyssa, you cook an awesome burger! Eric, that was a blast, and I can't thank you enough for you opening your home and shop to all of us.

When I left I went of to my buddy's house. We did some header fitup and welding for his twin turbo 383 in his '70 Chevelle. It should be north of 600hp to the wheels.
I need to get my sbc 400 together and in my car. That along with the 150 nitrous shot should give him a run for his money at Bandimere.

I am glad for the big turn out and some really awesome cars. I ran out of steam early last night and was in bed by nine, must be getting old!

Thanks bud! Yeah, that clutch sticking issue was a PITA... really hosed me. Well, that and by the time we got there, the DA was 7700' ft :( Whereas, I checked the weather, and if we had went earlier in the morning, DA was closer to 6400 ft, I'm sure that would have helped a ton. In my old Subaru's, I used to be able to pull 1.7-1.8 60 ft times without a problem, but my AWD Bimmer doesn't want to launch as easily.... doesn't help that I had never launched it before haha. I have a feeling that on a nicer day, with a solid launch, I should be able to pull mid-low 13's at 103-104mph. Just a guess though.

Either way, for a 3800 lbs AWD, 4-door, entry-level "luxury" sedan running nothing else except for a flash, it's not bad at all. A couple of the local guys over on e90post with 335xi's that are running full intake/IC/exhaust & tune have been running low 13's around 106mph, with one guy running intake/IC/exhaust/meth & Procede (piggyback) that just broke into the high 12's at 107mph (all at Bandimere of course). Although, this is my daily driver, so other than the flash (which, I'll likely eventually custom tune when ATR software is released), I'm not planning on doing anything else to the car. Hence why I bought "Project Miata", to help get my mind off of modding the Bimmer haha!

Yeah, I think my brother was a bit disappointed in the Goat, but I don't know what kind of technique he was using to launch the car. Using the DA calculator on Drag Times:
http://www.dragtimes.com/da-density-altitude-calculator.php

Set for yesterday's date, Bandimere, at 4:53pm (closest to when we made our runs), it gave us a DA of 7590, and said corrected, my brother's GTO should have run a 13.8@102.6mph at sea level, which would be about right for his 4AT. Although I really did think his car would have trapped higher than 92-93mph... his GTO & my pig-heavy 335xi weigh about the same, and my car didn't put down THAT much more than his GTO at MAC (although I am pushing more boost now than I was last time on the dyno), certainly didn't think it was enough for my car to trap 9-10mph higher than his GTO.

I saw a couple new 5.0's there yesterday, not sure if they had anything done to them, but they were pretty quick, running mid-high 13's around 104mph. I don't have to tell you that at Bandimere, that's considerably quicker than most of the "other" close to stock NA V8's up here, so don't be discouraged, those cars are quick :D

Actually, based on your dyno results (as well as everyone else with a 5.0 in the country haha), as well as the fact that I've seen some of the guys at sea level running mid 12's stock at around 115mph, it's no doubt Ford did a GREAT job underrating the hell out of those cars!! 412bhp + 3500 lbs car does NOT equal 115mph traps at sea level haha, sandbagging son's of b*tches haha! Your car also put down around ~370whp corrected at MAC (when you were still stock), compared to my bro's car only putting down 326whp & my buddy Dave's Charger SRT-8 putting down 340whp, so I think you should likely be able to run mid-low 13's in that thing, even at Bandi. I'm guessing my Bimmer is now making around ~360whp or so corrected at MAC (we'll see next weekend) and I was able to hit 102mph traps, so I'm sure your car is likely making 20-30whp more than my Bimmer and about ~300 lbs lighter, so I don't see any reason for you to not be trapping at LEAST 105+mph.

Either way, will be interesting to see what she puts down! :)

I trapped 107.7 at Pueblo last week. Guys are NOT trapping 115 stock in these at sea level. More like 107-109. They are running high 12s a lot of them though. Usually around 12.7 @ 107-108. With my mods they are trapping closer to 115. Lucky bastards.

There was an SRT-8 Charger at Pueblo last week that was running 13.77. Don't know what his traps were or his 60'. There was one GTO but I didn't see what he was running, and there were no new Camaros, so I don't have any reference point on those.

I just used that DA calculator for the day I went to Pueblo and despite it being 1,000' lower altitude, the DA was still 7164 that day. So with good weather, a DA closer to 6400' like you said, and a good launch, I should theoretically be able to get into the 12s. Now I don't want to wait until May to find out, hehe. I'm putting some relocation brackets on the control arms today that should eliminate wheelhop the rest of the way and let me launch harder and faster. I didn't have anything done to the suspension when I ran at Pueblo last week.

Oh, I just found a stock timeslip over on Drag Times for a guy claiming his stock 2011 5.0 was trapping 115mph:
http://www.dragtimes.com/Ford-Mustang-Timeslip-21072.html

^^^I figured with most of the Car mags trapping them around 110-112mph that a few factory freaks in the right conditions trapping 115mph wasn't out of the question.

Either way, NICE TRAP for that DA!! Looking forward to seeing what you can do at Bandi :D
