[quote="chickenwafer"]Agreed. I don't mind the hatchback STi but the last more "raw" STi was the 04-05's I believe (I am by no means a Subaru expert however).

They were going to do this as the Miata was next in line to receive the Mazdaspeed treatment (despite already one MS variant being made) but there was something about how the motor didn't fit and they would have to notch the frame or something...I call BS because really they could make it fit if they want (if Aston Martin can cram a V12 into their DBS chassis Mazda can slip a slightly larger 4 banger into the Miata, come on), so there were probably other reasons to this.

But yes, I truly think a current gen Miata with the DISI motor and a 6-speed gearbox would be a real barn burner. Think of the potential!

I still think Mazda needs to make a Mazdaspeed RX-8, but it ain't gonna happen. Too many risks with the Renesis to really take it to the next level. Mazda did experiment with this by fabricating a centrifugal supercharger kit that (3 were made) for the RX-8 around 2004.

They were going to sell as a Mazdaspeed RX-8 but it just didn't make enough extra power, has reliability issues, and the potential price was too high.

Turbo kits for easy power for the RX-8. And they're plug-and-play. Just ask Jimmy!

plus, the sti and evo is the 'me too' car right now. 10-15years ago, it was the mustang/camaro.

High Schooler 1: Dude, my parents just bought me a new car!
High Schooler 2: oh yea, what kind?!
High Schooler 1: Dude, a mustaaaaaang!
High Schooler 2: Me too!
High Schooler 2: What color?!
High Schooler 1: Red, duh...winning!
High Schooler 2: Meeee tooooooooooooooooo!

ReconbyGod: You just need to get your car tuned properly and I promise you you'll enjoy it more. I was having all kinds of troubles before also.

I'd buy one. Looks like an Aston Martin mated with an RX-8.

Mazda would end up out-pricing themselves, like Mitsubishi did with the 3000GT.

Mazda's a financially poor company anyways, so they don't have the resources nor the capital to bring a true high end sports car to market right now.
