Broke down yesterday. Went to shift and the clutch pedal didn't come back up. Was able to coast it into a parking spot, but the car wound up on the back of a wrecker headed for Courtesy Mazda. I'm thinking blown line (didn't see any leaking fluid, however), slave cylinder or master cylinder. Really hoping it isn't a bad clutch, as Mazda is really bad about warrantying them. Frustration, as my car only has 48,000 miles and I'm pretty nice to it. Any other possibilities for stuff wrong or suggestions on dealing with Mazda?

Stick to your guns and call corporate if need be. That's the only way I've been able to get Mazda to stop being a dick about my vehicle. If it's still under warranty they have to fix it unless they can prove it was something you did to the vehicle to cause that problem. Are you mod free?

Did the pedal ever start feeling differently? Like there was extra play or anything like that? I doubt it's the problem since you have relatively low miles but I used to have a problem with mine always snapping the pushrods. Turns out the hole where it mounts onto the pedal was hollowed out into a figure-8 type hole and it had extra play, and because of that it changed the angle of the pushrod and would start to bend it and eventually snap it. Happened twice before I looked at the pedal and replaced it. Like I said, I doubt that's it, but it's always possible I guess. I'd say maybe you had a slight seepage that you didn't notice. Hard to tell.

OMG! Don't tell me the pedal bracket is crap in the Speeds too. I think mine is about to go again to. I should take it in tomorrow.

Mostly mod free. Rear motor mount and Mazdaspeed intake in SRI mode. I'm not figuring either should be a major problem. I've got the stock MM if they want to be jerks about it. No warning on the failure, one minute it was fine, then next it was broken. I'll keep you all updated regarding the issue, quality of service, etc.

So, $298 later the car was fixed. Slave cylinder on the clutch died and leaked out all the fluid. At least the car is functional again.

Not according to Courtesy. Not part of the drivetrain. They were kind enough to "waive" the $110 diagnostic fee.

thats ghey, if it mounts to the drivetrain and is required to drive it should be covered... i can see them saying no to the master cylinder, but not the slave.

It definitely should have been covered under powertrain. I had the slave replaced on the RX8 under factory powertrain warranty at Burt.

ive noticed if you work with the females and offer to sling meat their way they tend to work with you alot more but thats from my experiences
