Suggestions for a job

So I'm just going straight to the point:
I've got a list as long as the great wall for what I want to do to my 6. Problem is, I've got no money saved up to do anything and no source of income. So I need to find a job. Problem is, I've never had a job.
Background info:
I'm 16, no sales experience or anything
I haven't had any jobs in the past
I live down near I-25 and C-470 and I do have my car that I can use to commute somewhere (within reason, eg my dad works basically up where I-25 and I-70 meet - no way I'm traveling that far)
I can only work weekends - I don't have time with the amount of homework I have to work at all after school
I'm a tech nerd - I would love to work at a place like best buy more than like a clothing store or a restaurant (I actually applied at best buy over the summer but never heard back)
I'm not saying absolutely no, but I would prefer to avoid retail and restaurants; they are low on the list. If retail, the only thing I might be halfway decent at is being a checkout clerk. My sister had a job at a restaurant after her junior year and she absolutely hated it. And my mom has expressed quite strongly that working retail sucks. I'm also limited in the restaurant realm by my age - IIRC you have to be 18 to remove alcohol from a table or anything when busing tables, so that would be an issue. I would rather work retail over a restaurant.

So I'm looking for any suggestions you guys might have of what might be a good place to apply. Any ideas?

My first job was at a hardware store. It was easy work and I learned a lot. I was making 8.00 an hour and working about 20 hours a week. I'd honestly just start filling out applications at places you could work (not places you absolutely couldn't) and see what happens.

Unfortunately, when you're young and not qualified for anything, you're probably going to have to work at a job you hate for a while. Being under 18 is probably going to limit you and so is only being able to work weekends. Retail and food service do suck but hey it's money and you're young with no bills so the money you make goes right into your car. It's a matter of how much crap are you willing to put up with to get your car the way you want it?

Hmmm. IDK. There is a new bestbuy opening in Lakewood opening up in the Belmar shopping area. I think next month. They have a HUGE now hiring sign. Perhaps give that a try. Not sure if they are looking for experienced folk but I'm sure they will train you.

Wadsworth and Alameda are the cross streets. Might be a little far for you.

Thanks everyone.
I'm not opposed to something I wouldn't enjoy by any means. I know that I will have to settle with things that I will pretty much hate for quite a while. It's not that part of it that I'm worried about. I'm more worried about making sure that I will be halfway decent at it so I can actually keep the job. Like retail in a clothing store - I wouldn't really be any good at it, so I likely wouldn't keep a job there very long.

Thanks for the heads up on the new Best Buy. I'm not opposed to going that far really, my sister went almost as far when she worked over the summer. But I'll take what I can get, whether it's at that Best Buy 20 miles away or the one 2 miles from my house.

Being 16 with no experience, you'll just have to take what you can get. Can't be too picky. You have to work up to being a Check Out clerk... at least at a grocery store. Being 16, you'll start as a bag boy (I used to do that too in HS).
My first job was at a movie theater getting paid minimum wage... $4.25 at the time. It was a fun job and I had a lot of friends working with me.
Once you get a job, then you can start looking for a different one and pick the one you want that will hire you.

I agree, don't get into the restaurant business. You will make a lot of money on tips and it would be hard to leave to get an office job later in life that pays less at the beginning.

So true. I've seen it happen a lot with out waitresses. Some have college a full 4yr college education and well they stick around waitressing because they make more.

Keep in mind that if you get a job 20 miles away the extra gas will eat into your spending money. I commute 56 miles each way so I spend a crap-ton on gas but the amount of extra money I was able to make at that job over my previous one made it worth the drive. But when you're probably going to be making minimum wage or close to it, gas costs to get to and from work become a bigger deal.

If it's 20 miles to work and you get 20mpg, you're using 2 gallons of gas to get to work and back and probably working close to an hour of each day for free basically, just to pay for your gas to get there.

I'm actually extremely lucky as a teenager. My parents don't make me pay for maintenance on the car, or gas or insurance or anything. I have a credit card with a fairly low limit for emergencies and gas and stuff like that (such as an oil change when needed). And I don't even get 20mpg. I average 16 :/ Might as well be driving Jimmy's rx-8 with that kind of mileage.

And I just applied at the safeway behind my house (literally less than 5 minutes walking distance). Going to see if I hear back from them, and I might also apply at King Soopers.

You can make ok money working for supermarkets. If you can work your way up to working as a cashier they make over $10/hr I think. They're union so you get hooked up pretty good compared to say being a Wal-Mart cashier.

These days, if you can even get a job you should feel lucky just to be working. Take what you can get, don't be picky, and try to find something really close, maybe even within walking or biking distance. No job you get is going to really suck. It's going to be a learning experience no matter what.

To be honest man, if you are trying to avoid retail i think it may be difficult to find anything. When i was 16 i started my first job with Best Buy. Now in college i still work for them. They are an "ok" company. The people you work with are awesome, but the corporate bs you have to deal with is annoying. I would suggest Best Buy, i worked at the one in Park Meadows when i was in high school; it's a pretty cool store.

The thing also is - you state you do not want to work for a retail - but best buy is retail. Take anything you can grab. I'm like erod- I travel 40 miles each way to work so try to get something close if you're wanting to do stuff to your 6i. Also do not be picky. My roommate is trying to get a job here in the springs and they are still looking and she's 27.
