Autodimming mirrors are hit or miss in my experience. They don't always dim properly if the person behind you's lights are right around the top of your rear seats in the mirror. We have trouble with my wife's Impreza's mirror not dimming sometimes and it really sucks when you're getting full brightness in your eyes at night.
My Mustang's mirror is autodimming and it seems to do a pretty good job so far. I haven't had a blinding experience yet with it, but then it's only been 2 weeks.
