Need a Monitoring device for the speed

So I'm looking into having a device in my car to help me monitor what's going on under the hood. I'm not a fan of gauges, but I need to see what's going on, as my car is fully bolted and now tuned.

I'm looking at the MSD Dashhawk, Greddy Informeter, Scan Gauge II or anything else you can suggest.

I just watched Chromal's review of the Ultragauge. Pretty cool gadget for a good price, but I don't think it displays the information I'm looking for.

Tbot, feel free to chime in as you have a good understanding of what I'm looking for.

If I could do it all over, I'd get a Dashhawk. That said, the Aeroforce Interceptor is good for what it is.

Pro- stays in the car and looks good.
Con- doesn't do as much as the DH, and not that much cheaper iirc.

I love, love, love my Dashhawk. Best thing I have bought for the car. Displays 4 things at once (you can do 7 but it becomes very small and hard to see while driving), can do logs, can do performance tests like 0-60, 1/4 mile, etc., can be set to change colors to alert you when values exceed certain thresholds (I have 3 thresholds set up with different colors for different amounts of KR). It's just an awesome tool and well worth the price, even though it is kind of expensive. I have my main page displaying Boost/vac, AFR, DI fuel pressure, and KR. I also have my 2nd page set up with LTFT, STFT, Intake temp (IAT) and Boost temp (BAT). It can also monitor load, maf g/s, basically anything and everything the ECU sees. I really cannot say enough good things about it.

I mounted mine on the steering column in front of the speedometer. Depends on how tall you are but at worst it blocks 0-20 which isn't a big deal to me since I'm never trying to go a constant speed below 20mph anyway. You can set the color of the display to match the red of the interior lights too so it blends in.

This is a bad cellphone pic from when I first got it but you can see the location. It's a bit brighter than the gauge lights so it doesn't look the same color in the pic but it's pretty close. Something else to note is that I have the steering wheel out all the way. If you like the steering wheel pushed in farther you might not be able to mount it in this spot.

After failing to get an order through a couple of sites, I managed to pick one up at Street Unit. They ordered a palatte of them before they were discontinued, but they are going quick.

I have mine on top of the steering column as well but I have 6 on display. Not too hard to look at actually but 7 is hard to see what's going on.

What do you guys think about this plastic mount for the low, low price of $75?

Personally, I like the placement of Erod's and Batman's better. Having my vent-pod, I find it difficult (at times) to monitor things. It seems that it would be much easier, right in front of the gauge cluster.

Also, what's up with that mount? Does it just rest on your dash? May look kinda funky...

It attaches to the dash with double sided tape. It has a 'quick-disconnect' piece that screws into the back of the dashhawk. Supposedly it's not of the best design; doesn't' fit correctly with the contours, is a cheap-looking plastic, and the whole thing wants to rip off the dash when you try to 'quick disconnect' the dashhawk. Not the best of reviews...and for $75? That's a lot of money for a piece of plastic.

Yea, I'm definitely mounting my dashhawk like Erod and Batman have theirs. I'm stoked. Now it just needs to be warmer outside!

Received my Dashhawk in the mail and it is awesome. I took it out for a spin, to run my 1/4 mile time and 0-60mph the first night, and today I was trying for gas mileage. It's even more accurate than the mazda in-dash display for mpg.

When I mounted it, the velcro to stick to the steering wheel column didn't work too well, so I changed it for an alternate velcro that sticks much better.

I couldn't get my computer to recognize the device, so I may have to make a quick call to get that figured out, but for now, it runs perfectly so I'm not sure if I need to have it updated anyway.

I have the color set to red with blue and green turned all the way down. The bottom 2 pics show the true color. It matches the display perfectly imo. All in all, I am very happy.

Nice! Have you checked your LTFT to see of the HT calibrated your MAF correctly for your intake?

Hmm... after seeing the profile view, I actually like the offset mount a bit better. Fitment issues not withstanding the plastic.

Does look like a pretty handy device though.
