Damn $500-$600? That's pretty crazy. I can drive round trip for around $300. Honestly, if I thought my FD was too "fragile" to make the haul out there, then I'd have reservations about thrashing it on the Dragon (the whole point of the trip).

Afterall, the drive there is all downhill and cruising, no boost, no problems.

Did you not know that's what DGRR is Ian? LOL Hell yeah it's thrashing it, on one of the coolest roads in the world!!! lol

We've thought about car transport, I've even asked my Dad if he could get ahold of one of those trailers and just tow it with his semi, but it would still be pretty pricey. Fuel alone would probably be around $3500. Simon and I were talking about a car hauler though, your fiance's granpa's stuff should work. I want to drive though, I'm fully confident my car can make it there and back, even with the thrashing...or at least it WILL be able to handle it once you tune it for me Dave haha.

I'm totally up for this, assuming I can afford it. I've always wanted to go in my previous rotaries, haha. I can't say I know I can go 100%, but as of this date, I'll put out a 70% chance of going :D

We need to get a similar thing going in CO. We have so many roads that are just as nice and places to stay like cabins to rent.

Yeah, we'll have to get you tuned here soon.

I'm pretty confident my Fiance's Grandpa would let us borrow the trailer at least, not sure about the truck since he drives it a lot. If we just get the trailer I might be able to use my F350 to tow it. I know the truck can handle it, I'm just worried about the 198,000 mile motor making it there and back LOL.

I still think driving there is better...

Official dates are April 28th-May 1st.

The entire mileage one-way is roughly 1550 miles to Deals Gap, North Carolina, so 3100 miles round trip. This includes a stop in Lincoln, NE and Des Monies, IA to pick up friends.

For that kind of mileage, I would kind of like to make the trip in 2 parts/days, but if drivers swap we can do it in 1 day, but that's gonna be a loooooooong day LOL.

For making it in one day, we would have to assume everyone had an extra person in the car haha. If I can find a temporary girlfriend in that time...we'll see LOL. I was thinking about splitting it into 2 days also. I was thinking we could stay at my Dad's place possibly, if he'd be up for that haha.

Where is your Dad's place? It would be sweet if we could find a group of other guys making the drive over somewhere in Chicago or that area and crash at a fellow rotor heads place to avoid hotel cost. The most logical stopping point is actually around the Iowa/Illinois border.

Yeah, for two people you would really have to swap drivers a few times. When Eduardo and I drove from Phoenix to Denver it was kinda rough being in the FD for 9 hours. It's a small car, not like road tripping in a truck or something roomy. I had a friend who made a drive from Jersey to Phoenix in one shot, all 25 hours, but he was crazy and he was rolling a Camry- a road tripping car. After 8 hours in the FD I'm done.

I really think a trailer isn't necessary, I mean honestly, if you don't think your car can make the drive, then it don't go. It's one thing I guess if you want to save wear and tear, but really the drive is just cruising.

If anyone is looking for a ride and cannot bring their car I am happy to support a passenger - or if I cannot bring the car I'm happy to be that passenger =P lol

My seat might be open...I am probably picking up a friend in Des Monies, Iowa but if not I am probably bringing my Fiance. If my friend ends up bringing his STi he'll have room a few people plus luggage.

My Dad lives in Southern Illinois, so it's kinda out of the way from De Moines, but it's not far from there to meet 40 and take it all the way across. I've made trips for 24 to 26 hours but it was in a Grand Am and Prelude and I really don't feel like doing that anymore haha. And I'd rather have a trailer for Zico's car if he wants to tow it instead of drive it rather than him not make it or his car not make it. And it would be helpful if any others break down, that way we can load them on the trailer and not miss a beat. Honestly I'd rather not have to wait on a truck and trailer but it would be helpful if someone breaks down.

Well if your Dad has a free place to stay for us then it's all good, just saves us money for hotel rooms and sketchy hotel parking lots.

I understand about the breaking down thing and the trailer, probably my biggest fear is breaking down somewhere in Indiana or something, that's gonna be one expensive *** tow bill!

It's just not going to be fun to have to do 60mph to pace the trailer and also break your wallet when it's time to fill up the truck haha. If we can get a trailer I'm pretty sure my truck can tow it, and if we're serious I can talk to my grandpa-in-law about borrowing his trailer and/or truck.
