erod550 wrote:Colombia, is that a beagle/basset mix? I had one very similar when I was a kid that was. He was an escape artist. Got out of every pen we ever built for one, including one with a chicken wire roof.

Hmm i made a response but i guess it didn't get posted. He is a purebred Beagle. His parents were on the large end of the Beagle world so he is a bit bigger than most Beagles. He too is a sort of escape artist, though he doesn't himself escape from things, but if we answer the front door he sneaks by you in a blur of fur before you even knew he was near you. Then it's a heck of a challenge to get him back in since his nose takes him anywhere and everywhere in the most random ways.

Nice pics of the yours by the way. Love the laser eyes.

Post away people! Don't care if you have posted before, post up a newer photo.

If anyone wants a 13-year-old, geriatric, dumb-as-a-rock lab-mation mix who licks his back feet until they bleed, paces endlessly at night and keeps people from getting ANY reasonable amount of sleep, let me know by Friday. After that, you'll find him somewhere along Bar Trail.

Seriously, this damn dog is killing us. We have to keep the cone of shame on his damn head all the time now to keep him from licking his back feet. That causes him to crash into things all night long, keeping us awake. I've taken to drugging him at night with Benadryl so he'll sleep.

AAARGGG!

Sounds like a real winner there Stealth. My parents' dog (Lexie, a beautiful and fun golden lab) was allegedly allergic to all but the most expensive dog food, licked her front feet raw (no blood, but they always looked bad *and* the best part was that she was allergic to grass... Which is probably why she was always licking her feet, and her belly almost always had a rash.

My parents all but seriously tried to pawn her off on me when I graduated and moved out. Really a great dog, obedient, fun, but almost more trouble to own and take care of.

Yeah, Blue's a good boy, and I know I should be way more patient with him than I am, but the sleep deprivation is getting to me. He only started with the licking about two years ago. We had it ALL cleared up once. Fur had grown back and everything. So what did he do?

Started again.

We got him in Dec 1999 from the pound. They said he was 2 at the time, so he's AT LEAST 13. I suspect he's a bit older than that.

His vision is starting to go. His hips are troubling him. His licking has worsened. And he doesn't hear low-pitched sounds so well any more. He regularly stumbles on stairs, and has fallen down ours a couple of times.

I think his days are numbered, and I feel awful about it, but I hate the high-maintenance part of this. Ugh.

My parents have a yellow lab that's about 11 years old and she has a couple pretty large tumors in her belly and her hips are having trouble too. They have a tri-level so it's tough for her to get up and down all the stairs these days. She's been a great dog but her days are limited I'm afraid :(

This is Max. He is a 2 1/2 year old full pit. He is a special needs dog, he is completely deaf. I got him from the SPCA in Texas. He was a forced relinquish, meaning that the SPCA had to go into the home and remove him because he was being abused. When the SPCA took him out of the home he had three broken ribs, a broken leg, a really deep cut on his ear, and one of his eyes was swollen completely shut. He was beaten so bad that he is completely deaf and has severe brain damage. Because of the brain damage that occured, he lost several motor skills that over time we have been able to partially gain back. The biggest one being that he can't run, he can walk, but he can't run, he hops...like a rabbit. It's pretty funny to see. At the SPCA the workers told me that anytime a male would go in his kennel to feed him he would run into the corner and soil himself. So eventually they only had females taking care of him. However, when I was walking through the kennel area I noticed that he was the only dog not barking, in fact he walked right up to the fence and tried to lick me. I asked a worker if i could take him to the yard to see how we got along and he immediately warmed up to me.
We have been working over the past two years with his socialization skills and have made enormous strides of improvement. He isn't afraid of anyone anymore, he has done a complete 180, I'm very lucky to be blessed with such a well behaved loving animal.

With a face like that, I don't see how anyone could have the heart to beat him. His previous owner should be taken out and beaten until he soils HIMself.

Agreed. I was a little apprehensive about adopting a pit bull, I have had a mini beagle, a bloodhound, and a border collie blue heeler mix. But I couldn't stand not helping him out. You only hear the negative side to the breed and its heartbreaking but i'm hoping that Max can change peoples mind about the breed.
He is easily the most loyal, loving, friendly dog that i have ever had.

Cute dog indeed. And nice to see one that hasn't been cropped. Kudos to that, as well.
