I know of a few bugs with that much power on a bug motor, why swap the motor?

I don't know why, but it makes me happy someone did it. 1940's chassis design with 2000's engine power. WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG?

so true. The motors are old-tech but they have been around so long that it's not uncommon to have a 300hp NA VW bug motor. It would be more of an accomplishment to have the AWD platform too on it :) Or at least a 500hp DD STi VW bug.

AWD bug would be cool.

My uncle back in the day, late 60's- early 70's, put a ford 390 in a bug. He put the motor in the front and basically had the tranny welded to a rear with no driveshaft. The front seats were gone because of the placement of the motor. You sat in the back seat.

Friend of mine in Seattle built one for rally. I want to say it used the 4x4 hardward from the awd vw van, but I don't remember for sure.

Yup, thats the one I think! Whatever was used, it was a really cool car. I can only imagine how much fun something like that would have been with 500+ HP.
