Playboy and the FD

Postby alpha » Mon Oct 04, 2010 9:14

We've all seen this quote...

***
"When Playboy magazine first reviewed the FD RX-7 in 1993, they tested it in the same issue as the [then] new Dodge Viper. In that issue, Playboy declared the RX-7 to be the better of the two cars. It went on to win Playboy's Car of the Year for 1993."
***

So does anyone know what issues (year/month) these were so I can order back copies?

Or even better - does anyone have digital copies of the articles?

Thanks,
Matt

Oh, I guess you "get it for the articles" huh? LOL You should just order every issue for the whole year, just in case lol.

I do love that the FD and all RX-7s have received such high praise though. Awesome.

I still need to come up and see that REPU too. Maybe when I come up to help Dave with his car.

If i had to guess, April or November, and I'd lean toward November. This determined from availability of the TOC of each issue, only those two have car articles, from what i can tell.

Flyin' Miata stuff:

08 Sunlight Silver Mazda 3s GT Sedan - 'Tuna'
OEM Wing spoiler, Sirius and Media switcher

05 Onyx Black Mazda 6i Hatchback - 'Smokey'

Hey speedjunkie, Good one! Remember we can always admire the scenery while reading the articles... ;)

Thanks for the feedback RedRoadster, but at 12 bucks a piece I want to be sure. Since no one has the facts, I'm starting to think this "article" may be an urban myth. Time to call Adam and Jamie.

Thanks for the props chickenwafer, much obliged.

Good, so I can load the rotary motorcycle into the back of the rotary truck and take both back to my place. Oh, I probably shouldn't have posted this in his thread LOL.

Indeed LOL. I've never seen the article I don't think, but I have no reason to think it's a myth either.

Found it!

Postby alpha » Sat Oct 22, 2011 9:14

I finally found the article! After months of closely examining every detail on every page... ;)

Playboy May 1992 page 82 by Ken Gross - He never declares the RX7 as "better", just "merits strong consideration".

I've scanned the article to PDF's, but made a text file of the RX7 review for CMZC members/visitors. PM me if you want the PDF's.

Enjoy,
