Do you install snow tires every year?
I run winter tires, along with my stock wheels (which I'd like to powder coat). I'll probably wait until the 1st snow fall before I change them out. No reason to waste tread life until they are needed. And this year I have all-seasons on instead of summers, so I should be ok to wait until after the first downfall. Side-note: I'm still miffed Discount Tire hosed me on my summer tire order!!!!!!

Yeah, I'll take the Jeep if there's more than about 6-7 inches on the ground, but this year, since my wife's CX-9 is gone and her car has crappy all-seasons, she'll probably want the Jeep on snowy days.

Yep. That's what I liked about the MS6 last year -- the controlled sliding I could do. It's almost impossible to make the Jeep slide if traction control is on. Amazing 4WD system. But turn that TC off, and DAMN...

AWD only helps with accelerating in snow. How often have you been able to remove yourself from a dangerous situation in the snow by accelerating out of it? I'm sure there are some situations, but they are not that common. Stopping, or the lack of stopping, is what gets most people into trouble in the snow. This will be my 17th winter of driving and I've only had winter tires for 5 of them. Obviously, it can be done without them, but IMO- WHY?

Blizzaks on a set of extra wheels, which get switched on and off as needed- typically several times each winter. Cordless impact + racing jack makes it a 20 minute process.
Michelin Pilot Alpin PA2 on 2006 5 Spoke MZ3 rims. They make the car (almost) as fun in the winter as it is in the summer on RX8 and RE01Rs. I find that snow tires give up too much performance and feel on dry pavement and that performance winters are the best alternative for Colorado weather and the kind of driving I do.
And it's always fun to put the beef back on in the spring and marvel at how tough the car looks for a few weeks.
It's for damn sure I wouldn't drive in Denver winter weather with summers on.

That's what I'm considering...PA2s. If timing works out, I should be looking at them tomorrow night in the DTC area...but timing doesn't look good so far.

The Arctic Claw Winter TXI M+5 tires I ran last year were quite impressive, then again I was coming off of summer tires, that were getting low on tread.
