Vac/Boost Leak on Primary Fuel rail

So my car was acting weird, it was not boosting up like before. Before it was hitting boost around 4500rpm and now i had to accelerate past 6k rpm to get boost. My boost gauge is reading 10 on vac, i thought my boost gauge was ****ed up but i tried another one from my neighbor and it was reading the same so i grabbed some Carb Cleaner and started spraying vacuum nipples, connections, etc... then i sprayed underneath the UIM and the car bogged down. So i grabbed a long vacuum hose that i had and used it like a stethoscope, found out that it was coming from underneath the primary fuel rail.

So i took the UIM out, got the primary fuel rail out and guess what!

Fuel injector O-ring was ****ed up luckily it was not leaking gas, now nobody on friking Colorado Springs have this o-rings and i don't have time to order them online since i'll ship out to afghan land on the 26. Im also redoing all the fuel system when i get back anyways.

Impressive diagnostic skills, tho! Real good thing that oil ring wasn't spewing fuel onto the housings. FD's are notorious for catching fire (although that's mostly due to the OEM craptastic fuel pulsation dampener).

The o-ring shouldn't be specific to the car, just any injector o-ring for side feed injectors should fit. Otherwise I know RX7.com sells a complete kit for the injectors for like $16.

I'd call Ray Crowe too, if you can't find anything local that will work. He ships very fast and gives discounts to 7club members, but usually if you're calling him he will give you a discount anyway because he doesn't ask if you're a forum member.

I'm sure you can find something local though.

You can get the orings at a lot of specialty shops or call mazdatrix and have them overnight you them

I went to Mazda and they want 25 for each o-ring. I have to order them too

Pull a good one out, go to napa and they can match it.

Well NAPA didn't have any. So i went to BAP/GEON imports auto parts and order them they should be here on monday.

Damn, I've gone to NAPA over on Austin Bluffs and Academy and they pulled out their catalog and different o-rings to match them up. Other places have let me go behind the counter and look for myself. You definitely caught a lazy one lol. I'm not surprised they were $25 from Mazda either lol.

I almost posted last night about pulling out one of the good ones and taking it to NAPA but I figured you were already on it lol.

I had that happen once and I told the guy to hand me a catalog I would find it myself.


I mean jesus ****ing christ how lazy does your stupid *** have to be when someone who NEVER looks at the thing can find it in less than 5 minutes.

^I've had that happened before, too. A lot of guys who work at Checkers, NAPA, AutoZone, Advanced, etc are pretty lazy and generally hate their job. Not saying ALL do, but a good portion it seems like.

I remember I went to a Checkers with a friend before to get his brake rotors turned. The guy behind the counter said they couldn't do them. These rotors were barely bad and could easily be turned, just lite grooving. After arguing for what seemed like 10 minuets he FINALLY turned them. Lazy ****

I just posted about this in another local forum lol. Well, it's not so much about them not helping, it's more about them thinking they are smarter than you about your own car/setup.

(at the parts store)
me-I need a K&N air filter, RU-2510 is the part number
them-what type of car?
me-It's for a custom airbox, that is the size that will work
them-well if you give me the type of car I can tell you what will work for your car
me-forget it, I'll go shoot myself rather than banter with you about this

(asking a Tire Rack tech about what size tires would be best for the new wheels)
me-I have wheels sized 9.5" and 10.5" wide and I'd like to know what size tires will fit each of these the same as the other. Right now I have 305/35 on a 10.5 and 285/35 on a 10" and they are too tall. Before, I used a 295/30 on the 10.5 and it fit perfectly, no bulging of any kind.

me-(thinking WHAT ****ING DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE?) it's a 94 RX-7
them-have you done any kind of fender modifications?
me-um, yeah (I wouldn't be running a 305 if it didn't fit genius)

The rest of the conversation was pretty much him giving me info I could find for myself on the site. What really got me was that not only was he giving me info I could have found myself, but he was arguing with me about how tires from different companies will be almost exactly the same size. BULLSHIT! I've seen it with my own f'ing eyes man. You can't take two tires from two different companies that are supposed to be the same size and expect them to be exactly the same, not usually anyway. He was also telling me the diameter measurements for each tire...yeah, I can read that on the site. Let's dive into this...a 255/35 on a 9.5" will have a different diameter measurement than it would if it were on a 10" wheel. Reading the measurements to me off the website tells me jack shit. I guess what I was looking for was their personal experience or maybe a piece of info I might not know. I guess I should have known I was going to get nowhere.

That FREAKY, Eric, because I had two VERY similar situations;

wWhen I ordered my wheels for the FD from Discount Tire, I had the 17x10's for up front. They called me and the guy said, "there is a problem with your order. Unfortunately, those 10" wide wheels won't fit for the front tires on your RX-7. Would you like to get some 9" wide wheels?"

ORLY??!!! Because Discount Tire is the ****ing tire/stance expert of the world? Because literally 25-50 people are running the exact same setup I am WITHOUT issue!! And guess what? They fit fine! LOL


I had the same issues with a guy at an AutoZone when getting an air filter for my 8. I had the intake pipe behind the bumper so I needed a tall, slim filter for it to fit.

I went onto the K&N website and found a model # that would work. Wrote it down, took it into the FailZone and talked to the dumbass behind the counter.

Me, "I needed to order this filter, here is the model number."
Him, "What car is it for?"
Me, "It's for a Mazda RX-8, but it has a custom turbo system on it so no OEM part will work..."
Him, "The part # you have it wrong, the correct number is blah blah blah I'm a stupid bitch"
Me, "No, you don't understand, the car is modified, the factory airbox was ditched 10,000 miles ago!"
Him, "So how am I supposed to know what part you need??!"
Me, "You're NOT supposed to know anything, that's why I'm giving you the freaking model number to the part I want to order!"

It was so stupid I couldn't believe it. The ONLY reason I wanted to buy it locally (instead of online) is because there was a car show a few days away and I didn't want to wait for shipping, plus I had dyno time booked the following week and couldn't afford to get the wrong filter, send it back, etc. I eventually got the filter at a NAPA.

I can understand why these car places train their associates to act like dumbasses...because think about it, they probably deal with dumbass customers themselves 98% of the time. The problem is, when a customer like us comes in, someone who probably knows MORE than the guy behind the counter instead of less, they have no clue what to do.

Reminds me of another incident at a Checker or somewhere,

I needed some GM Weather-Pack connectors with pigtails for easier wiring of my custom LS2 ignition system on my 8. So I go into the auto parts store and the following takes place,

Me, "Hey, I am looking for some universal GM Weather Pack connectors"
Him, "What? I've never heard of that, there's no such thing..."
Me, "No, just the plug-in connectors, like a male and female end with a pigtail, they are an OEM GM part..."
Him, "What GM car do you have?"
Me, "I don't have a GM anything, it's an OEM part made by GM but I am using it for another application"
Him, "I've never heard of universal anything, there's no such thing!"
Me, "OK, whatever, you're right, I'm wrong, go kill yourself"

And I left. LOL
