the new ford ecoboost motors are where its at man...those thing look beefy as hell and are a generation beyond the disi motor, so less design flaws lol.

As I understand it from MSF, it isn't really design flaw with the MZR, but manufacturing flaws. At least where the rods are concerned. And possibly some piss poor ECU programming.

I'm starting to believe that they just didn't leave much headroom for performance gains on the basic MZR until 2009, when they did something to fix it.

I have a spreadsheet with 44 blown MZR motors on it. I have mods, year, and whatever else I can find. Know what?

Not a SINGLE 2009 or 2010 on that list yet. NONE. Mazda fixed something.

OR, those motors just don't have enough miles on them yet and will start blowing soon enough. Most of the ones I've seen blow are in the 40k+ miles range. Hard to rack up 40k miles in one year.

Well the manufacturing had to come from somewhere...which was the initial design...

Start reading the crowsfeet thread over there and tell if thats a design flaw, or manufacturing flaw? ;)

The motor if left stock...probably pretty damn good, but you can't expect the crowd they marketed these cars to, to be left completely stock, thats just assenine. So its an design flaw if they didn't give ANY wiggle room what-so-ever, not a manufacturing flaw.

Yep, that's possible. But some of the earlier ones popped in less than 10K, and many under 15K.

What I've read, and i'm not sure it's accurate, is that the 2009 map was adjusted so that max boost and torque come on higher in the RPM range, preventing the rod from taking that much stress in the 3K RPM area. And it looks like the rods in the 2010 engines are different than the ones in the earlier models, and the map was re-adjusted for down-low torque to reflect that.

Again, take it with a grain of salt, but it could explain things nicely.

Wow this thread sure got off topic.

I can believe a new Speed6 is coming out next year. But as for a turbo rotary or a new RX-7, there have been countless rumors for a loooong time now, so I'll believe that when I read the press release. I just really, really hope that if a new RX-7 does come out, it doesn't have those f#*@ing RX-8 style front fender flares. Though it almost certainly would, seeing as how Mazda seems to think it's a good idea to put them on every single vehicle they make...

Yeah, there have been rumors of a new MS6 for years now too, so I'll believe it when I see it. And probably want it, but the wife has made it clear -- no more new cars for a LOOONG time.

well, as many have stated in posts in this thread...

Mazda released the DISI motor WAAAAY to soon on the original speed6 platform, and umpteen millions of problems have existed since then, and most of us have suffered in some way, shape, or form because of it, whether its minor problems like broken diff bolts, or major problems, like smoking turbos, and blown motors.. I lost my trust honestly in Mazda (this is my 5th Mazda), and I just cant ration doing it again. Why do you think my car is STOCK? Even at total stock, I STILL get knock in my motor,.... Things like that...

100% with ya Eric. I'd love to push this car off a cliff.

I agree Eric...I just think I'm gunna have to stick it out with hopes of no issues or problems. After this car is paid for I'm definitely looking for something else thats more reliable (meaning I'm not thinking about SOMETHING always in the back of my head everytime I start the damn thing)

Yeah, good point Eric. That's why I said I'd wait until it was for sale used. See what problems pop up.

Dude, I'm all about Mazda Chicken. We have airbags ;-)

If we decide to go the cliff route we won't be cleaning anything up. Leave the F'n metal pile of crap there. I don't want anything back form this car, other than the vehicle I traded for it.
