Oh and Ian, a stronger clutch won't help you bang through the gears any quicker, in fact, it can make it more difficult.

Well, it's going to be a Merry Christmas for my FD!

Picked up some rebuilt stock secondary 1300cc Nippondenso side feed injectors off 7club for a steal the other day. I knew I'd need more fuel than the stock 550/850 setup can provide. The new injectors should be enough to max my clutch (330-345rwhp).

I also took the plunge again (I never learn) and scored a killer deal on a PowerFC, new OLED Commander, and Datalogit all bundled for $1k shipped! I just hope it works...I've already been burned before! I did all my research on the seller, who is reputable and has had great communication, so I'm feeling confident. But, we'll see.

Got the PFC. Of course, I have problems...

Followed all the right install steps, and did a sensor check and all sensors were reading in range and nothing listed as bad. I breathed a premature sigh of relief.

Plugged the Datalogit box in, then the Commander into the Datalogit...first the Commander wouldn't power up, so I pushed the Datalogit plug into the ECU a little more and it powered up...Communication error! WTF? So I unplug the Datalogit completely and plug the Commander back in...powers up and reads data no problem...odd?

So I go to start the car...first mistake was my coolant temp was 7*C, pretty damn cold and an un-tuned PFC sucks for cold starts. I should have let it warm up on the OEM ECU. Oh well. It stumbles and dies about 15 times before I can pedal the throttle enough to keep it running, but barely, sounds like it's running on one rotor or something...very rough and RPM will dip to 600-500.

After pedaling it for what feels like 15 min I decide to just let it die...but it holds at around 600rpm just chuggin away, running like shit. AFR's on the AEM are showing 17:1...WAY lean! I pop the throttle body elbow off and adjust the idle air bleed screw while it's running, it helps a little but not much. I double check the MAP sensor hose as that's usually an issue, but it seems to be fine. I move the hose and automatically RPM rises to about 850 or so, but it still pretty rough and very lean.

Since I forgot to pick up a serial adapter I can't use the Datalogit right now, so I use the Commander and try to trick the PFC into making it richer by putting in smaller primary injectors...nothing, still idling hella lean. I really can't think of what else to do...I got coolant temps up to 77*C before shutting it off.

I'm wondering if only run rotor is running...but I can hold the RPMs higher (around 3k or so) and it sounds like it on 2. Not sure what it could be right now. Just waiting to pick up an adapter so I can use the Datalogit...odd the Commander wouldn't work when plugged into it (paging Eric! haha)

I think it's just the map man. I mean, for one, you're WAY lean. Second, it's running similar to the way mine was until you messed with the map. Before you freak out, just get that serial port adapter so you can get into it with a laptop and do some tweaking. You can only do so much with the commander. I'm sure once you get in there you'll find some stuff to change and it will be just fine. You just have the jitters from being screwed over before already LOL.

And I'm not sure you want to be paging me in this instance, you're the expert in this area, not me LOL.

Yeah, I have jitters, LOL. I believe in the worst in people, yet I continue to buy used parts, especially electronics, because I get suckered by deals. I told myself a hundred times after the last "incident" I was going to buy new, no matter if someone was selling a PFC for $100 bucks...but did I listen? NOPE!!!

I replaced the vac line going to the MAP sensor hoping that would be the issue...it fired up easier and actually staying idling this time, but holy shit it's rough. The engine is visually shaking along with the shifter...it just sounds bad. Still running super lean. I was hoping it was learning my idle so I let it run like this for 20 minuets and nothing changed. I turned on the headlights and the idle dipped to 600rpm and it stalled out.

When I just give it some light throttle movement, the engine sounds very sluggish like it doesn't want to rev at all, and it's not like I'm flooring it, or even giving it more than 10% throttle. At 2500rpm is sounds...weird...like agricultural is the best way to describe it...certainly not right.

Just for verification I swapped the stock ECU back in and she fired right up and idled fine, no nasty vibration or anything, and revved freely. AFR gauge also came back to normal, so that works too.

I'm gonna pick up a serial usb adapter tomorrow and see if this is tune related...I just can't imagine the stock PFC map would run like this? There's no way. I mean, people BOOST on the stock PFC map...

I'll get a known good map on there tomorrow and see what happens...but if nothing changes I'm gonna flip out probably LOL

I still say it's the map though. I heard the base map on the PFC was never that great anyway.

I do have to wonder though...what does "agricultural" sound like? LOL!!!!!

You know what else though, I just remembered this...when I did my first single turbo swap in 08 my PFC wouldn't run right with my car, but it was fine is Zico's car and his is working in mine, so we traded. Maybe it's something like that too. I have my PFC out right now while I'm stripping down my wiring harness, if it's still out by this weekend maybe we can try it on your car. Although my family will be here this weekend and I won't be leaving town. We can try it some other time lol, maybe weekend after next.

I'll buy you lunch and pay for your gas if you come up here man, we can try swapping your PFC and also do some other stuff on the car I need a hand with, like the dual fuel pumps.

Let me know man, you would REALLY help me out!

Well why don't we set up a weekend where I can come up and get tuned and we can work on your car too? Would that work?

^yes, that would work Eric, but not so fast..

Verified the front primary fuel injector is not firing, the ECU has a fried injector driver, just as I suspected. Big thanks to Matt (Alpha) for helping me out!

I am going to contact the seller and see what I can do, otherwise Matt thinks he might be able to fix it.

Of course you can still come up to hang out Eric, and I can tune you!

First of all Ian, go tune yourself! LOL

Dave, I think you have the worst possible luck with engine management systems. Someday you'll get a good one...maybe LOL. And if anyone can fix it, I would say it's Matt haha.
